Dying Light: The Beast Gets New Trailer, Dev Diary Focusing on Parkour and Combat

Inching closer to the September 19 release date for Dying Light: The Beast, developer Techland has released a new trailer for the upcoming title. The trailer, dubbed Out in the Wild, can be checked out below, and focuses on how Dying Light: The Beast is handling the melee combat as well as parkour systems that the franchise has become known for.

Techland has noted that the parkour system in Dying Light: The Beast has seen a glow-up, with a focus on making it more realistic and grounded to offer more immersion to players. To help this, in-game physics have been tweaked for appropriate jump height and length, with the floatiness having been removed. Players can also go just about anywhere and climb anything they want, and they will be aided by the realistic movement and physics.

Along with this, there is an emphasis on exploration thanks to the fact that players can go where they want. This also means that players can find their own way through missions if the environments allow it. Stamina also doesn’t limit players when they’re trying to climb taller structures. Rather, players will have to rely on their wits and observation skills to get higher and higher. All in all, Dying Light: The Beast will feature more than 100 new animations for parkour, including 17 new animations for edge climbing.

As for combat, Dying Light: The Beast will emphasise physical and brutal encounters that allow players all the creativity they might want. Weapon strikes have been recalibrated to have more appropriate swing and stop timings for maximum impact. The new physics engine also offers up realistic reactions from enemies, complete with short animations as well as active ragdoll effects.

Enemies that players will have to face will also make use of more complex tactics, with the studio noting that they can use up to 22 different strategies for positioning and making use of the cover mechanics. As for helping players get more brutal with their moves, a new damage model allows for the destruction of at least 12 different body parts on enemies. There will also be twice the number of visible wounds on enemies over the previous title.

Coupled with the new trailer showcasing gameplay is a new dev diary that features technical game director Kacper Kwalczuk, senior animator Marcin Bahryn-Kamiński, and franchise director Tymon Smektała, talking about how they have improved on the parkour and combat in Dying Light: The Beast over its predecessor, Dying Light 2 Stay Human. Check it out below.

Earlier this week, Techland had released another trailer featuring the different voice actors for protagonist Kyle Crane across different languages. The humourous trailer focused on the voice actors arguing about who can lay claim to the title of the real Kyle Crane, and features a total of 232 F-bombs spoken and shouted out in different languages.

Dying Light: The Beast is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S this month. The studio is also working on a release for PS4 and Xbox One. However, the previous-gen versions don’t yet have a release date.
