Jurgen Klopp has been linked with a return to Liverpool this season amid the Reds’ dire title defence under Arne Slot and his current employers Red Bull have now spoken out
Red Bull chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff has vowed to ‘deal with’ any interest that Liverpool would have in taking Jurgen Klopp back to Anfield. The German had a hugely successful spell with the Reds before his exit in 2024.
He was replaced by Arne Slot, who eased fears over Klopp’s exit by leading Liverpool to the Premier League crown in his debut season. The Merseysiders have failed to hit those heights this campaign with a dire season so far.
There have been suggestions that Liverpool could potentially turn to Klopp once more should they jettison Slot. Any move would be dependent on the German being released from his role as Red Bull’s head of global soccer and Mintzlaff has suggested that Klopp remains happy in his current job.
“Jurgen Klopp feels completely at home with us and has already learned a tremendous amount here,” he told German outlet Welt. “There’s no release clause in his contract, and he’s clearly committed to us.

“He has no intention of looking for anything else. If something were to come along, we’d have to deal with it. But there are absolutely no indications of that.
“If the DFB were to approach Jurgen, I would ask Bernd Neuendorf (DFB President) why he no longer wants such an outstanding national coach (Julian Nagelsmann).”
Asked about Klopp’s specific role with Red Bull, Mintzlaff has praised him for the work he has done so far. He added: “He played a major role in Leipzig’s resurgence. He helped the team tremendously to take the next steps and struck an excellent balance between providing support on the ground and giving the clubs room to breathe.
“Many were worried that he would overshadow everything here. But the truth is: everyone benefits from his input, but ultimately makes their own decisions. Jurgen Klopp was our marquee signing, coming on a free transfer. When he talks to young players we’d like to sign, it’s a game-changer.

“Jurgen Klopp is immensely credible when he explains why a move to Leipzig, New York, or our club in Brazil is the best step. And the public doesn’t see much of his work. He regularly exchanges ideas with the club coaches. Developments and questions are discussed – and always presented as suggestions.

Klopp himself has already addressed talk over a move back to Liverpool. He suggested that he would never manage another team in England but did not totally rule out a return to Anfield. “I said I will never coach another team, a different team, in England,” he said on The Diary of a CEO podcast. “So that means if then it’s Liverpool…yeah. Theoretically, it’s possible.”
