Emery calls for Liverpool to alter Elliott loan deal
Unai Emery says Aston Villa have been working “for three months” to alter the terms of Harvey Elliott’s loan deal from Liverpool.
The former Fulham wonderkid joined Villa on Deadline Day in September with an obligation to buy based on a set number of appearances.
Elliott has now made a total of seven appearances for Villa and the deal stipulates Villa will have to pay around £30m to Liverpool once he reaches ten.
“I spoke with him. We have been fair because there are two ways,” said Emery.
“One way is sport, the second is business. We’ll be fair in case, because we are trying it and I told him, I spoke a few times with Harvey.
“Now I am opening the door to play with us, because he can help us, but it’s not only on my side. The other side is Liverpool, if they are taking off the clauses they have, to play matches and for us to buy him compulsory.
“[I told him] ‘you are going to play here with us, it’s a sport decision’. But now it’s a sport decision and a business decision.
“My sport decision is still there – ‘you are deserving to play, we need your qualities in the field, you are going to play’. But in case, the clauses are still there and now it is Liverpool – they have the key.”
And with one youngster struggling for minutes, Villa have now taken the decision to send another out on loan to gain some senior experience.
Rory Wilson joins Sturm Graz on loan
Villa confirmed in a club statement this weekend that young striker Rory Wilson will join Austrian outfit Sturm Graz until the end of the season.
The 20 year-old, who joined from Rangers’ academy, has been on fire in the youth side this season, scoring more goals than games played in European action.

The youngster has featured regularly in Scotland’s youth set-up, scoring 19 times for the U17 and U19 sides before progressing to the U21 ranks.
He has praised John McGinn’s influence on his development at Bodymoor Heath: “I speak to John McGinn now and again. He is good with all the young Scottish boys at Villa.”
