Windows 10 KB5055518 update fixes random text when printing

Microsoft has released the KB5055518 cumulative update for Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 10 21H2, with nine changes or fixes.

The Windows 10 KB5055518 update is mandatory as it contains Microsoft’s April 2025 Patch Tuesday security updates, which fix six actively exploited zero-day vulnerabilities.

Windows users can install this update by going into Settings, clicking on Windows Update, and manually performing a ‘Check for Updates.’

However, as this update is mandatory, it will automatically start installing in Windows once you check for updates. To make this more manageable, you can schedule a time when your computer is restarted to finish the installation.

After installing this update, Windows 10 22H2 will be updated to build 19045.5737 and Windows 10 21H2 will be build 19044.5737.

Windows 10 users can also manually download and install the KB5055518 update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

What’s new in Windows 10 KB5055518

The KB5055518 update includes numerous changes and fixes in Windows 10, including the operating system now using the default browser to open search bar links for users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and a fix for a bug that caused dual-mode printers to print out garbage text.

This update includes nine fixes or changes, which are listed below.

  • [Daylight Saving Time (DST)] Update for the Aysen region in Chile to support the government DST change order in 2025. For more information about DST changes, see the Daylight Saving Time & Time Zone Blog.
  • [Noto Fonts] This update provides Noto CJK (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) fonts in Windows.
  • [Mobile Operator Profiles] Updated: Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA) profiles are updated.
  • [Printers] Fixed: USB connected dual-mode printers that support both US Print and IPP Over USB protocols, might unexpectedly output incorrect or unwanted text.
  • [Remote Desktop] Fixed: Certain Get-Help troubleshooters might not run in a Remote Desktop session.
  • [Thumbnails] Fixed: Thumbnails in File Explorer may crash resulting in white pages appearing instead of the actual thumbnail.
  • [Temporary files] This update enables system processes to store temporary files in a secure directory “C:WindowsSystemTemp” via either calling GetTempPath2 API or using .NET’s GetTempPath API, thereby reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
  • [Search on Taskbar]
    • In the European Economic Area (EEA), Windows Search has been updated with improved support for web search providers including increased discoverability and merged results in the All scope.
    • In the EEA, the Microsoft Bing app’s web search provider in Windows Search now opens search results with the default browser.

Microsoft says there are two known issues, all of which have been problematic for months.

Since the January 2025 updates, Windows updates may fail if the Citrix Session Recording Agent (SRA) version 2411 is installed on the device.

“As a workaround, stop the Session Recording Monitoring service, install the Microsoft security update, and enable the Session Recording Monitoring service,” explains a Citrix support bulletin.

The second issue is that Windows EventViewer may incorrectly display an Event 7023 error about SgrmBroker.exe, stating, “The System Guard Runtime Monitor Broker service terminated with the following error: %%3489660935.”

Microsoft says that SgrmBroker.exe currently serves no purpose in the operating system, and the errors can be ignored. The bug will be fixed in future Windows updates.

A complete list of fixes can be found in the KB5055518 support bulletin and last month’s KB5053643 preview update bulletin.
