What exactly is the drama in The Drama? Information on the upcoming film, in which Zendaya and Robert Pattinson star as Emma Harwood and Charlie Thompson, an engaged couple on the verge of marriage, has been sparse so far.
Google is categorising the film as a “romance”, which seems to sit somewhere between slightly misguided and quite wrong. We’re guessing that it’ll be a bit more meaty and character-led than that label suggests.
What we do know for sure is that it’s written and directed by Norwegian Kristoffer Borgli, who previously penned and helmed Dream Scenario, about a college professor (played by Nic Cage) who suddenly starts appearing in the dreams of people all over the world.
The Drama’s logline only gives a tantalising hint as to the plot: “Days before their wedding, a couple’s relationship is shaken when one partner discovers unsettling truths about the other.” That’s not much to go on. So, which of the pair is unsettled and which unmasked? A just-released teaser for the film may provide some clues.
The framing device for the teaser is a photoshoot in which the couple appear phenomenally uncomfortable, interspersed with short scenes from their life together. If we had to guess, we’d say that it’s Pattinson’s Charlie who’s just received the surprise of his life. Take a look at this moment 48 seconds in: it seems as though he’s received some very disturbing news.

Either way, we highly approve the Pattinson and Zendaya pairing and can’t believe that it hasn’t happened before. However, it won’t be the only opportunity to see them in a film together next year.
Both are starring in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey – but it’s unlikely they’ll be sharing screen time. Pattison is taking on the role of Antinous, all-round arse and unwelcome suitor to Penelope, while Zendaya is goddess Athena. Quite right too.
The Drama will be released by A24 on 3 April 2026. We’d be taking our seats and grabbing the popcorn now if we could.
