While we’re all busy using AI to generate everything from essays to artwork, another battle is brewing behind the scenes — the fight to determine whether something was made by human hands or algorithms.
I’ve been using Midjourney for years now, and the quality has reached a point where even I sometimes forget they’re AI-generated. This got me thinking: how good are the tools designed to catch these AI creations?
Enter Undetectable AI’s image detector. They’ve made waves with their AI text humanizer tool, but their image detection capabilities haven’t gotten nearly as much attention. So naturally, I had to put it to the test.
The question is simple but important: can Undetectable AI actually spot Midjourney’s handiwork? And if so, just how accurate is it?
What is Undetectable AI?
To put it simply, Undetectable AI is an AI humanizer, meaning it’s a paraphrasing tool that can bypass common AI detectors. It removes all common signs that your input could be machine-generated including patterns, common words, and AI hallucination.
But the thing is, Undetectable AI evolved. It now has many different features to support most AI needs. One thing I’m curious about though is their AI image detector. I want to know how effective it is at catching AI-generated images.
What is Midjourney?
Midjourney is an AI image generator that turns your text descriptions (prompts) into stunning visuals. Unlike other AI tools that feel a little bit too uncanny, Midjourney actually produces images that don’t make you cringe when you look at them. It’s far from perfect, but it does art like no other AI image generator (well, maybe except the newly-released GPT-4o).
I’ve been using Midjourney extensively for my blog posts (you might have noticed those eye-catching headers), and trust me, it’s a complete game-changer. While other platforms like Firefly and Stable Diffusion exist in the same space, Midjourney has that special something — a distinct artistic style that makes your images look like they were crafted by an actual human artist instead of lines of code.

So, let’s test Undetectable AI’s image detector using photos generated by Midjourney. These will range from artworks to realistic images. At the end, I’ll be tallying up the score to see how effective Undetectable AI truly is at spotting AI-generated images.

So, What Have We Learned?
When you open Undetectable AI’s image detector, you’ll get a popup that essentially says that their model is still in beta, so there could be some mistakes here and there. Truth be told, I didn’t expect much. Maybe a few false negatives here and there.
But all things considered, Undetectable AI did exceptionally well.
At 72.22% accuracy, I’ve got to say I’m impressed. That’s significantly better than random chance, especially considering how advanced Midjourney has become at mimicking human artistic styles.
I’m actually curious to see how Undetectable AI’s detector will improve over time. Right now, it’s catching most AI-generated images, but the technology is evolving at breakneck speed on both sides of the AI coin. Only time can tell.
