We’ve all been there — staring at a blank document, fingers hovering over the keyboard, trying to will the words into existence. But then, an AI assistant appears, offering to tackle the task. Now, you’re left wondering if it’s worth the time.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’ve had some, shall we say, mixed experiences with AI platforms. Sometimes they deliver pure gold, other times it’s more… well, you get the idea. Which is why when I heard about Merlin, I knew I had to put them to the test. And there’s no better way to test it than trying it out against Undetectable AI, the best AI humanizer I know.

In one corner, we have Undetectable AI that can transform even the most machine-like text into something that reads like it was written by a human. And in the other, we have Merlin AI, a platform that boasts an army of language models, ready to tackle everything from translation to content generation.

But the real question is, which one is the better choice?

What is Undetectable AI?

Undetectable AI is an AI bypasser, a paraphraser that’s made to turn AI-generated text (or something that resembles it) into one that reads more like human writing. They do this by rewriting the content, removing AI markers like common words and repetition, and adding human errors.

If you’re interested, here’s our complete overview of Undetectable AI.

What is Merlin?

Merlin AI is a platform that combines different AI capabilities in one. You get instant access to features like webpage translation, article summarization, email writing, and many more directly from your browser through their Chrome extension or web application.

It costs around $20 per month, which is reasonable, especially considering that they also have a free trial.

Their platform is powered not by one, not by two, but by ten LLMs, which are:

  • o1-preview, GPT-4o, GPT-4o Mini (OpenAI)
  • Claude 3.5 Sonnet, 3.5 Haiku and Opus (Anthropic)
  • Gemini 1.5 Pro, Flash (Google)
  • Mistral Large
  • Llama 3.1 405B (Meta)

You can do a bunch of things with Merlin, but I’m here to focus on two features: their AI humanizer and detection tool.

Undetectable AI vs. Merlin: Bypassing AI Detection

Let’s start by comparing these platforms’ AI bypasser first.

Readability

Richard Nixon significantly influenced world politics, particularly through his policy of détente, which eased Cold War tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. His 1972 visit to China marked a major diplomatic shift, opening relations between the two countries and setting the stage for China’s eventual integration into the global economy. Nixon’s foreign policies reshaped alliances and global dynamics, promoting realpolitik over ideological confrontation. However, his legacy is complicated by the Watergate scandal, which damaged the U.S.’s global image and trust in leadership.

Richard Nixon had an impact, on relations by spearheading a policy of détente that helped reduce tensions during the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union in particular. His visit to China in 1972 was a moment that led to improved relations between the two nations and paved the way for Chinas eventual participation in the global economy. Nixons foreign policies shifted alliances and global dynamics by prioritizing realpolitik over conflicts. However his legacy is complex due to the Watergate scandal, which tarnished Americas reputation, on the world stage and eroded trust in its leadership.

Richard Nixon had an impact, on politics by implementing detente to ease tensions during the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.Through his visit to China in 1972,Nixon paved the way for relations between the two nations and played a crucial role in Chinas integration into the global economic system. His foreign policies led to changes, in alliances and global dynamics promoting politics over conflicts. However Nixon’s legacy is overshadowed by the Watergate scandal which negatively affected Americas reputation on a scale and eroded trust in its leadership.

Let’s dive into these paraphrased versions of the original ChatGPT essay. Between the two attempts, I’ll admit — there’s not much difference, but I prefer Undetectable AI better.

Merlin shows several mechanical issues that affect its flow. Missing spaces after punctuation marks create awkward transitions (“impact,on”), while inconsistent capitalization of proper nouns like “Americas” breaks basic writing conventions. The random placement of commas disrupts the natural rhythm, making some sentences feel choppy and less professional.

Undetectable AI maintains better overall readability, though it’s not without flaws. It properly handles the accent mark in “détente” and generally follows more natural sentence structures. While it does have a few misplaced commas and missing apostrophes (like in “Nixons”), these minor issues don’t significantly impact comprehension.

Take note that both have mistakes because they have to avoid AI detection. If you want to know more about fixing their grammar while maintaining a low AI likelihood score, this article would be a good start.

The Score + Quick Thoughts

Just a quick note: I’m using Leap AI because we’ve recently reviewed it against Undetectable AI, and I found it to be one of the few that can detect it at a semi-consistent degree.

This was obviously a small sample size, but apart from that one blemish from Merlin, both AI humanizers work really well. It’s just that Undetectable AI is more consistent in my opinion, especially after trying it against other detectors in the past.

Undetectable AI vs. Merlin: AI Detection Accuracy

Now, let’s test Undetectable AI against Merlin’s AI detector.

The Score + Quick Thoughts

Undetectable AI vs. Merlin

For context, we’ve done this test many times using different AI detectors. I always expect the score to be low, after all, Undetectable AI is just that good.

But 6.125% is a little too low for my taste.

AI bypassers (like Undetectable AI) will only get better from here. If Merlin can’t detect it at this point, then I don’t see them having any market in this segment. Fortunately, they have so much more to offer. It’s just that their detection model isn’t quite up to par with other heavy hitters like Winston or Sapling.

The Bottom Line

At the end of the day, the choice between Undetectable AI and Merlin really comes down to your priorities. If you’re solely focused on getting AI-generated text past detection, then Undetectable AI is undoubtedly the way to go. Its track record speaks for itself, and it consistently outperforms even the most advanced AI detectors.

But if you’re looking for a more well-rounded AI platform that can handle a variety of tasks, then Merlin might be the better fit. Sure, its detection capabilities may not be on par with the competition, but its versatility makes it a great choice for an AI assistant.

It’s up to you to weigh the pros and cons and decide which platform best suits your needs. Just remember that, when it comes to AI, you can’t afford to settle for anything less than the best.
