Undetectable AI vs. Grammarly’s AI Detector: It’s One-Sided

With AI, it’s a whole new world — and that means different ways of doing things. Before, in academic spaces, teachers already had their hands full with plagiarism concerns. Now, with LLMs taking over education, they also have to keep an eye out for academic dishonesty with ChatGPT and the likes.

That’s a lot of extra work, but pretty soon, AI detectors started popping up. The only problem is that they’re not all created equal. Some are better than others, and some just flat-out do not work.

Some teachers use AI detectors from platforms they already trust. TurnItIn, QuillBot… Grammarly. But trust is built with results, and for AI detection, can you really trust any of them? Can you trust Grammarly?

Let’s answer that very question, and what better way to test it than using input from the best AI detection bypasser today: Undetectable AI.

What is Undetectable AI?

Undetectable AI is an AI humanizer, a platform that paraphrases an input text so that it can bypass AI detection tools. With their output customization features, you can also make sure that the output isn’t far from your original purpose and reading level.

Undetectable AI starts at $14.99 per month for 15,000 words and increases to $209 per month for 380,000 words. With this subscription, you can access their AI humanizer, as well as other features like their translator, job application writer, and SEO writer.

You can read our full review of Undetectable AI here.

What is Grammarly?

With more than 30 million daily active users, Grammarly is one of the most popular online grammar checking and plagiarism detection platforms. It’s the go-to AI writing assistant even before ChatGPT took centerstage, and continues to be so for many students, teachers, and writers.

They have lots of features, but the one we’re going to talk about today is their AI detection tool. From hours of testing, I’ve determined that it can accurately detect AI text to a reliable degree.

But can it detect ChatGPT-generated text that’s tweaked by Undetectable AI?

Undetectable AI vs. Grammarly’s AI Detector

Grammarly is a great AI writing assistant, but is it a good AI detector? Let’s find out by pitting it against the ultimate test: Undetectable AI.

Grammarly AI Detector vs. Undetectable AI:
AI Likelihood Scores

Some AI detectors are good enough that they can detect text coming from AI humanizers like Undetectable AI. I had thought that (given their reputation) Grammarly would be one of those select few — I was wrong.

Instead, it joins a different group of AI detectors: those who had an average of 0% correctness score against Undetectable AI.

The Bottom Line

Undetectable AI continues its streak of wins against popular AI detection tools. Apart from Winston, no other detector has come close to beating this tool — and for good reason. Undetectable AI was already good enough, but they’re constantly updating their model so that it adapts to any improvements that AI detectors make.

But remember: AI humanizers have a habit of adding mistakes to their output (Undetectable AI included) so make sure you fix its grammar first. You also need to keep your hands clean and not cheat using this tool. It’s tempting, I know, but you’re just doing yourself a disservice if you use it this way because you’re not really learning — you’re copying.

As for Grammarly, I’m confident that it’s still one of the best writing assistants out there, but not an AI detector. If you’re looking for a better choice, I highly recommend this article. Good luck!
