Trump Names Social Security Administration Head

The president-elect has tapped Frank Bisignano, president of fintech company Fiserv, to lead the agency.

President-elect Donald Trump has added another name to the many he has announced so far as he fills out his Cabinet and other top roles for his incoming administration.

He announced on Dec. 4 that he selected businessman Frank Bisignano to lead the Social Security Administration.

“Frank is a business leader, with a tremendous track record of transforming large corporations,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, alerting the world to the nomination.

“He will be responsible to deliver on the Agency’s commitment to the American People for generations to come!”

The role will require Senate confirmation.

The president-elect pledged to protect social security on his campaign trail. The entitlements program, crucial to the livelihoods of many older and disabled Americans, is supported by about a fifth of the federal budget at a time of rapidly growing debt.

Bisignano is the president and CEO of Fiserv, a financial technology company headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The firm has the naming rights to the Fiserv Forum, the sports stadium that hosted this year’s Republican National Convention (RNC).

Bisignano has worked in high-profile roles across the financial sector, including for JPMorgan Chase, where he managed the mortgage unit at a time of crisis. He was reportedly involved in the ouster of the firm’s mortgage chief amid revelations that active-duty military service members seeking loans had been over-charged.

He is also a prolific donor to Republican candidates, including Trump.

Bisignano would take the place of current Social Security Administration head Carolyn Colvin, who was preceded by former Maryland governor Martin O‘Malley. The acting head of the Social Security Administration before O’Malley was Kilolo Kijakazi.

During Trump’s first term, the agency’s final commissioner was Andrew Saul, who was eventually fired by President Joe Biden. A union representing Social Security Administration employees called on Biden to terminate Saul.

Nancy Berryhill first led the agency during Trump’s presidency as acting commissioner, replacing Colvin, who was acting commissioner appointed by former President Barack Obama.
