As expected, the Xiaomi 15 series of phones has been officially unveiled and although the wait goes on for the exciting Ultra model, the Chinese firm has provided one of the most ostentatious editions I’ve come across.
And I’m not even talking about the Rock Silver version of the Xiaomi 15 Pro, which features a snazzy 3D water ripple effect. Nor am I taken aback by the Xiaomi 15 Custom Edition which comes in no less than 20 different colours.
It’s the Xiaomi 15 Diamond Edition that really caught my eye. Prepare yourself because this thing is nuts and no, it’s not some kind of super early April Fools joke.
The Diamond Edition of the Xiaomi 15 is unlike any other phone I’ve seen in more than 12 years of writing about mobile tech.
Instead of a rear cover made of glass, it has a crocodile-grain leather in three different colours: Elephant Gray, Orange and Glacier White. Sure I like the orange one but why is there an elephant shade when it’s crocodile skin?
And that’s just for starters…

The camera module looks like it’s been through the Strictly Come Dancing hair and makeup department with its bedazzled sparkly style.
The icing on the cake here is a real 57-facet diamond embedded on the side next to an engraving of the words ‘Limited Edition’.
It’s bonkers and I sort of love it and hate it at the same time. I couldn’t bring myself to pull it out of my pocket down the pub with my mates, or anywhere in fact but part of me wants to for fun.
Xiaomi isn’t even charging that much for it at CNY 6,000 which is about £650/$840 converted.
Sadly, my conflicted bling phone dream is unlikely to become a reality since this limited edition is only available in China and I would bet won’t launch anywhere else.
