A fish and chips train has just returned to a beloved UK seaside town.

North Norfolk Railway’s ‘Norfolk Fryer’, a heritage steam train, will run from Sheringham Station to Holt, with a return journey lasting around 90 minutes.

It recreates a nostalgic seaside atmosphere, with passengers being able to tuck into delicious fish and chips from top Sheringham restaurants, followed by ice cream from another Norfolk favourite, Ronaldo.

This chippy tea will be served in either one of the restored 1950s British Railways carriages, or in the Gresley Buffet Car, featuring 1930s art deco interiors.

Travellers can also enjoy a variety of drinks at the onboard bar, while enjoying picturesque countryside views.

The fish and chips train will have a weekly service starting every Wednesday from 1 April 2026 from 6:30 pm onwards.

First-class tables for two start from £87.50 (€100.40), while tables for two in regular seating are £79.50 (€91.20). There are also seating options for three or four people, for larger groups. Seats can be booked on the North Norfolk Railway website.

Not a fan of chippy teas? The North Norfolk Railway also has a number of other dining train experiences, like brunch, sausage and mash dinners, and cream tea.

The cream tea train offers tempting fruit scones, clotted cream, jam and bottomless pots of tea, along with a generous slice of cake. In a special twist for the 2026 season, guests can pay an extra £8 (€9.20) for a bottle of Prosecco.

Services on the cream tea train run most Thursdays from April to October, with select Sunday services too.

Passengers can enjoy butcher’s sausages, freshly cooked onboard, with onion gravy and mash, on sausage and mash dinner trains, followed by a tub of Ronaldo ice cream.

Brunch trains feature a freshly-made Full English, complete with butcher’s sausages, scrambled eggs, bacon, mushrooms, hash browns, tomatoes and baked beans, along with a glass of orange juice and tea or coffee. A vegetarian option is also available.

Other themed train dining experiences include a Murder Mystery, with a welcome drink, a three-course dinner, and a themed “whodunnit” drama performed on board, complete with prizes for the best detective.

Looking for something a little fancier? Choose the Premier Lunchtime Dining train, featuring a three-course luncheon and a variety of local drinks.

For a more unique experience, there’s also a gin train, which serves five specially selected local gins, along with a mezze board of cold meats and cheeses and gin-infused cheesecake.

There’s also a Rails and Ales train, which offers more insight into Norfolk’s rich brewing tradition, especially local ales and ciders, as well as a variety of vintage locomotives.
