Samsung’s big Unpacked event has arrived, but there was a surprising absence when the firm didn’t announce a new Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
While the Korean tech giant did unveil the Galaxy Watch 8 and 8 Classic as expected, there was no sign of an updated Ultra. This is particularly odd as leaked information strongly pointed towards a new model.
The ever-reliable Evan Blass, aka evleaks, provided detailed renders of a new model in the days before Unpacked, following other leaks showing the same device.
However, it turns out this wasn’t the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, as most thought. Instead, it’s the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025), including a new colourway called Titanium Blue – shown on the left in our photos with the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.

We did comment on the leak before Samsung’s big show, noting that it appeared to be identical in design to the original Ultra, but it’s not out of the question for a tech company to retain such an element while upgrading the internal hardware.
In Blass’s defence, he never said it was a new generation, simply providing images with the name ‘Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025)’, which is the official name. Others confidently predicted it would be a full replacement.
The situation is reminiscent of the most recent Apple Watch Ultra launch, where some believed the iPhone maker was going to unveil the Ultra 3, but instead, all we got was a new black colourway.
Samsung has doubled the storage to 64GB but otherwise the smartwatch is the same as the original. If you do want one, you can pre-order now for £599.
It means the wait goes on for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, which could well be a summer 2026 device, with Samsung opting for a 2-year refresh cycle.
If you’re impatient for something new, then perhaps the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic will suffice with its Ultra-inspired ‘squircle’ design, including a rotating bezel and Quick Button.
