Netflix hasn’t been generous in revealing information about the second season of Sandman. Recently, however, we learned the titles of the new episodes, which gave us some idea of the season’s plot. Now, thanks to a clip posted on social media, we also know who will play the Endless siblings.
Fans of Neil Gaiman’s work have long awaited an adaptation of The Sandman. When the dark fantasy landed at last, the critical reception was positive and the show was a big ratings hit for Netflix.
We’ve gathered all the news about the next instalment of this smash hit. Gaiman fans can also check out everything we know about Good Omens season 3.
The Sandman season 2 release date
The Sandman was officially greenlit for a second season, although no specific details about the upcoming production were announced. So the release date for The Sandman’s new episodes is unknown.
The new season will most likely not appear until 2025, so Morpheus fans have a long wait ahead of them.
If you’re dying to enter the Sandman’s world again, you can rewatch season 1 on Netflix.
The Sandman season 2 episodes titles
According to Redanian Intelligence, season 2 is expected to have 12 episodes, which will appear on Netflix in two blocks.
Here are the titles of six of them, in no particular order.
- The Song of Orpheus – This episode is titled after The Sandman’s special issue of the same name. The original story focused on the bard of Greek myth and his relationship with Dream.
- More Devils Than Vast Hell Can Hold – The title refers to the issue, A Midsummer Night’s Dream from the volume, The Sandman: Dream Country. It’s also a quote from Shakespeare’s play.
- Brief Lives – The episode derives its name from the seventh collection of The Sandman. The volume focuses on Delirium of the Endless and her search for her beloved brother Destruction.
- Family Blood – This title probably refers to the phrase “spilling family blood” – something that Dream wants to avoid.
- The Ruler of Hell – It’s most likely a reference to Lucifer Morningstar, played by Gwendoline Christie.
- Season of Mists – This episode is named after the fourth collection of The Sandman. The volume covers a specific decision made by Lucifer and its consequences.
The Sandman season 2 plot
The Sandman is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s highly praised graphic novels. The first season was largely based on the volumes Preludes & Nocturne and The Doll’s House, although the narrative deviated in a number of ways from the source material.
The show’s creators will likely follow a similar path for the next season of the show. A scene at the end of the first season set up a key storyline from the fourth collection, Season of Mists, although we don’t expect the series to follow the graphic novel’s plot exactly.
If the episode titles are anything to go by, season 2 will also include plots from the volumes Dream Country and Brief Lives.
So, what do we expect to see in season 2 of the Netflix series? More Lucifer, for sure! You can expect your favourite demon to appear in their finest garments to spread chaos and destruction. The comics also introduce Destiny and Delirium, two other Endless, and the Norse gods Thor, Loki, and Odin. We will probably also learn more about Morpheus and Nada’s romance.
