The Elder Scrolls 6 is “Still a Long Way Off,” Says Todd Howard, Over 7 Years After Announcement

Over seven years later, new information about Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls 6 remains fleeting. No release date, no platforms, no gameplay – the list goes on. Unfortunately, long-time fans will have to wait even longer to get their hands on the fantasy RPG, as director Todd Howard told GQ that it’s “still a long way off.”

“I’m preaching patience. I don’t want fans to feel anxious.” Much like with Fallout 4, he prefers a small interval between announcement and launch. “I like to just announce stuff and release it. My perfect version – and I’m not saying this is going to happen – is that it’s going to be a while and then, one day, the game will just appear.”

Interestingly, when asked if a potential shadow drop could occur like with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, Howard responded, “You might say that was a test run. It worked out well.” Just ignore the weeks of rumors and leaks leading up to it, of course.

As for Fallout, there are “hundreds of people on Fallout right now, with 76 and some other things we’re doing.” While he didn’t go into further detail about the latter, rumors state that a Fallout 3 remaster is in the works. A new mainline Fallout is also apparently cooking, reportedly emerging from the cancellation of ZeniMax Online Studios’ Blackbird.

Howard has already confirmed that the studio is working on “even more” for the franchise. When it could be revealed is anyone’s guess, but “We are looking forward to the day when we can share that with everybody.”

In the meantime, Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition is out now for PlayStation, Xbox and PC with a Switch 2 version coming next year. It includes the base game, all expansions and DLC, and over 150 Creations from the Creation Club.
