Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has looked like a veritable visual beast every time it’s been shown off since its announcement all the way back in 2019. But though it’s certainly looking like it’s going to be one of the best-looking games around when it launches next month, it turns out that will come at the cost of performance in a way that many may not be pleased about.
In a recently published preview, German outlet GamePro revealed that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will run at 30 FPS on Xbox Series X/S. Though those playing on PC will obviously be able to improve performance (provided they have the hardware to support it), on consoles, there will be no other graphics modes available. According to VFX director Mark Slater-Tunstill, this is down to Ninja Theory wanting to achieve a more “cinematic” feel for the game, akin to movies that limit themselves to 24 FPS.
Recently, it also emerged that Ninja Theory founder and veteran writer and director Tameem Antoniades has left the studio.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 launches for Xbox Series X/S and PC on May 21. It will be a $49.99 digital-only release.
