Asim Munir marries daughter to brother's son in Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi

Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has married his daughter to his nephew, Pakistani journalists have confirmed. The wedding took place last week in Rawalpindi and was attended by top political leaders and senior military figures. Despite the high-profile guest list, the ceremony was kept largely away from public attention, giving the development an offbeat twist.

Journalists confirm marriage within family

Pakistani journalist Zahid Gishkori shared a video on social media platform X confirming that General Asim Munir arranged his daughter’s nikah with his brother’s son. Another journalist, Raja Munib, also confirmed the information and said, “Field Marshal Asim Munir has married his daughter to the son of his brother Qasim Munir. They are real brothers, and the wedding took place in Rawalpindi.”

Wedding held last week in Rawalpindi

In his video message, Zahid Gishkori said, “This wedding took place last week in Rawalpindi. According to the information I have, the marriage was with his brother’s son.” He described it as a high-profile event and identified the groom as Abdur Rehman.

Gishkori said, “It was a high-profile wedding, and his nephew was earlier a captain in the Pakistan Army. His name is Abdur Rehman, and he is the son of Syed Qasim Munir.” He also shared details about the bride, saying, “Asim Munir has four daughters, and this was the marriage of his third daughter. Her name is Mahnoor.”

Groom’s career and high-profile guests

Sharing more background, Gishkori said the groom earlier served as a captain in the Pakistan Army before moving to the civil services. He said, “Asim Munir’s nephew, to whom he married his daughter, was earlier a captain in the army, but later he moved to the civil services.” He added that the groom is currently working as an assistant commissioner under the civil services quota meant for army officers.

According to Gishkori, the wedding was attended by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, along with several retired generals and former army chiefs.

Event kept discreet for security reasons

Addressing speculation about foreign guests, Gishkori said, “The President of the United Arab Emirates did not attend this wedding.” He added, “I have information from reliable sources that the UAE President was not present. However, more than 400 guests attended the wedding, and the function was kept very secret due to security reasons.”
