After rumors emerged recently, an anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was finally announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Titled Sekiro: No Defeat, it’s brought to life by Crunchyroll, Kadokawa, Qzil.la and ARCH. Check out the first trailer below.
Directed by Kenichi Kutsuna, known for Puella Magi Madoka Magica and One-Punch Man, the anime directly adapts the video game. Several familiar bosses and moments, from Wolf losing his arm to the battle against Gyobu Oniwa en route to Ashina Castle.
In a press release, Kutsuna said, “We are taking on the monumental task of animating the breathtakingly beautiful Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In doing so, we are pouring every ounce of our artistic vision and passion for beauty into its production.
“The final product is being crafted to be a truly memorable experience, one that will leave a lasting impression on both dedicated fans of the game and those who are discovering the world of Sekiro for the very first time. Please look forward to it.”
Other notable talent includes screenwriter Takua Satou (Otherside Picnic), character designer Takahiro Kishida (Haibane Renmei, Durarara!, Serial Experiments Lain), and more. Wolf is voiced by Daisuke Namikawa, while the Divine Heir Kuro is played by Miyuki Satou. Kenjiro Tsuda voices Genichiro Ashina.
