Samsung TV Owners Have Some Incredible Freen New Films This Month

If you have a Samsung TV, you may or may not be aware of Samsung TV Plus – a free streaming service with an ever-changing library of shows and films to watch at your leisure, no subscription required.

This month, the list of movies arriving on the platform in the US is quite impressive, including high-stakes action blockbusters and dramas, as well as cosy romcoms and comedies.

If you adore Ryan Coogler’s recent hits (he’s the director of Sinners and the Black Panther films), you should catch his debut film, Fruitvale Station. This biographical story from 2013 is based on the events leading up to the fatal shooting of Oscar Grant by a police officer. It won the prize for Best First Film at Cannes, and has a strong 94% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes (virtually the opposite end of the spectrum from the 0% seen on Amazon’s recent War of the Worlds film).

Another standout on the list includes 2010’s Machete, starring Danny Trejo. Originally based on a fake trailer in Rodriguez’s and Tarantino’s Grindhouse, this is a bloody, gory and fun action flick that you can switch off your brain to.

For something a bit more intellectually stimulating, there’s Vice, starring Christian Bale – though it’s hard to recognise him under all the layers of make-up that transform him into former Vice President Dick Cheney, the supposed quiet mastermind who whispered in the ear of President George W. Bush and played a huge part in the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Other movies on the list that you should consider giving a watch include:

  • Point Break
  • Jerry Maguire
  • Point Break (2015)
  • Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
  • Enemy Of The State
  • Mrs. Doubtfire
  • The Prestige
  • Pretty Woman
  • Don Jon
  • 2 Days in Paris

Of course, movies on Samsung TV Plus don’t stick around forever, and this list has been specified for September. So, if anything takes your fancy, make sure you get a movie night scheduled in the calendar before the end of this month. All these films follow a big upgrade to the voice assistant, Bixby, which rolled out last month.

Tech Advisor can’t confirm if the films above are also available on the UK library, but has contacted Samsung for comment.

You can find the Samsung TV Plus app on your home menu. Just select it and browse through the library to find what you’re looking for. Note that this is an ad-supported service, just like the new channels coming to Roku devices in the UK.
