In summaryWhat to expectWhat not to expect

The invite is to an event that will be streamed on Samsung’s Newsroom and its YouTube channel on 21 October from 10pm ET.

That works out to a rather unsociable 3am on 22 October here in the UK, so be sure to set your alarm. Or, more likely, just come back here at a civilised hour for a full rundown.

What to expect

Rather than the smartphone-focused Unpacked event that saw the launch of the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S25, this latest Samsung Event will focus on so-called “extended reality”.

Samsung is proclaiming “A New Era of Multimodal AI”, which will include a new category of AI-native wearable devices.

This is going to be the event at which we hear more about the joint Android XR project, which involves Samsung, Google and Qualcomm.

Samsung

Essentially, Samsung is supplying the AR headset (also known as Project Moohan) for Google’s new Android XR mixed reality platform, with Qualcomm laying on the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip that powers it.

Samsung has been its device off at a bunch of tech events recently, including last month’s Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit. There have been no hands-on demos, however, with the device stuck behind a glass box.

We’ll be interested to learn how much Project Moohan will cost, with rumours of a £1,324 to £2,100 price tag suggesting it won’t exactly be a mass-market proposition.

What not to expect

For the avoidance of any doubt, there’s highly unlikely to be any major new Galaxy device announcements here. The lack of Unpacked branding in this invite tells us as much, but simple timing is another factor.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 almost certainly won’t launch until January, and as we’ve already mentioned, Samsung’s foldable phones all launched several months ago. Samsung recently launched its Galaxy Tab S11 family, too, so don’t expect anything on the tablet front.

There’s a chance we’ll receive a glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy Tri-Fold, though we’re not holding our breath.

Make no mistake – this one’s going to be about the next major attempt to crack the AR/mixed reality formula, this time with AI playing a major role.
