  • Summer 2026 is the likely release window

Samsung made a big splash with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, bringing in a handful of updates that we’ve been clamouring for, but now that the phone has spent some time on the market, our attention is turning toward its next mainline successor. Here’s all we know about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 so far.

Given that the proliferation of foldable phones doesn’t seem all that long ago, there is something mindblowing about the idea of Samsung’s mainline flip phone going into its eighth iteration – especially when we don’t even have the foldable iPhone yet.

To Samsung’s credit, not only did the company help to establish modern flip phones as part of the mainstream conversation, but with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it reminded us all of why the company is a force to be reckoned with in this area.

After having yielded some ground to the excellent Motorola Razr phones over the last few years, Samsung reclaimed it all with a vastly superior outer display that pairs perfectly with the recently revamped One UI software. With this in mind, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could go even further, making it one of the most anticipated flip phones of 2026.

We’ve rounded up all the rumours as well as using our expert alaysis to take a look at the possible release date, price and specs.

When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 be released?

In summary

  • Summer 2026 is likely to be the key launch window
  • Unless something changes, expect a July release

As you may already be aware, Samsung has yet to come out and officially announce the existence of the Galaxy Z Flip 8, but that’s no surprise to anyone.

The Z Flip 7 is still fairly new on store shelves, so it’ll be some time yet before we get word of an official follow-up.

However, given the precedent that Samsung has set with previous releases in the Galaxy Z Flip series, we have a pretty good idea of when the Flip 8 might appear.

Both the Z Flip 7 and the Z Flip 6 were released in July of their respective years, and unless Samsung decides to divert from its well-established strategy, all logic points towards July 2026 as the time when we’ll get our first proper look at the Z Flip 8.

For greater context, here are the launch dates of previous phones in the Galaxy Z Flip series:

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip – February 2020
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G – August 2020
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 – August 2021
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 – August 2022
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 – August 2023
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 – July 2024
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 – July 2025
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE – July 2025

How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 cost?

In summary

  • There are no rumours yet about a price increase
  • A higher price tag isn’t out of the question in some territories

The question of price is always a worry for flagship phones amidst the current wave of economic turbulence, and while there haven’t been any rumours yet to suggest that the Z Flip 8 will go up in price, the idea isn’t without some traction.

For starters, rumours have started to surface that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 might see a higher price tag in the company’s homeland of South Korea, although international markets should be okay.

We’ve also seen a handful of price increases within the Z Flip range already, with UK pricing jumping from £999 to £1,049 when going from the Flip 4 to the Flip 5, while the US saw a similar increase from $999.99 to $1,099.99 during the shift from the Flip 5 to the Flip 6.

If the Flip 8 does retain the pricing of its predecessor, then we can expect a starting rate of £1,049/$1,099.99, but we’ll update this section the moment we have more news to tell, so be sure to check back in the future.

Here’s what the last few Samsung Galaxy Z Flip phones cost at launch:

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip – £1,300/$1,380
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 – £1,399/$1,449
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 – £949/$999
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 – £999/$999
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 – £1,049/$999
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 – £1,049/$1,099
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 – £1,049/$1,099

What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 have?

In summary

  • Anticipate a much slimmer and lighter Z Flip phone
  • The phone could have a more powerful version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

A slimmer build

Being quite a distance out from the official unveiling of the Z Flip 8, very little is known about Samsung’s next mainline flip phone but there are a few tidbits starting to appear, the most prominent of which is that the phone will be trying to emulate the Galaxy Z Fold 7 by opting for a much slimmer design.

According to frequent smartphone tipster Jukan, Samsung is looking to bolster its line-up of foldables before the long-awaited folding iPhone comes to be, and one of the ways it hopes to do that is by making the Z Flip 8 at least 10% slimmer than what came before.

This change in thickness should also bring about a more lightweight build overall. Even though the Flip 7 added a much larger outer display and a better battery compared to the Flip 6, the weight was relatively unchanged so to see the form factor become the focus once more will be a nice touch, especially since Samsung’s software experience (for the most part) now feels at the top of its game.

A beefed-up Snapdragon processor

Samsung’s chipset strategy has always felt tied to a pendulum. With the company’s mainline Galaxy S range, the phones have moved from Snapdragon to Exynos chips and back again so many times that we’ve lost count.

By comparison, the Z Flip series was surprisingly consistent in sticking with Snapdragon CPUs for almost its entire run, that is, until the Z Flip 7 came along and moved over to the Exynos 2500.

While the 2500 chipset wasn’t bad by any means, and we found that it held up quite well in everyday use, it seems as though Samsung is taking a step backwards by siding with Qualcomm once more, but this time there’s a twist.

According to a South Korean news outlet, Samsung has had a hand in the manufacturing of a specific Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset based on its super-efficient 2nm process.

What this means is that the phone could end up having a version of Snapdragon’s latest chip that’s actually better than the one found in recent phones like the OnePlus 15, which could mean a serious leap in power for Samsung’s flip phone.

Our hope is that this also leads to a boost in software wherein the outer display is more capable and can be used to interact with a greater selection of apps from the jump, without the need for additional configuration.
