Ramsey remembers

Morning.

It’s Sunday and there’s not much going on. Everyone’s away. The neighbours are picking up the post/feeding the cats. Actually, these days you can get automatic cat feeders. Or, you can just leave a load of food out, and enough water, and cats will be fine. That’s their whole thing. Then when you come home they pretend they don’t love you anymore because you’ve been away but that never lasts and then they get all needy again.

Which isn’t to say I view you all as cats. Far from it. But if we’ve had a glut of content of late, a couple of light days won’t be a big deal because you’re all full up, or something. Just don’t bring home half a mouse as a sign of affection. Kudos to your hunting skills, but it’s not needed.

I did enjoy this via r/gunners – Stoke fans reacting to Aaron Ramsey. Or, to put it another way, Aaron Ramsey knowing exactly what he’s doing after Cardiff City beat Stoke on penalties in the FA Cup. Obviously now he’ll face some kind of FA charge for being mean during a celebration or something, but fair play to him. He remembers. We remember. For some reason, they took it personally when their player smashed his leg into two pieces with what was a horrendous challenge, and he chose not to accept a mealy-mouthed apology.

I went back to the archives to search for Ramsey and Stoke, and found this from April 1st 2018:

The other thing that lends today’s game a bit of an edge is the history we have with Stoke, and have had down the years since Aaron Ramsey had his leg broken. If an Arsenal win today contributes to their struggles and pushes them closer towards relegation, then I’m all over that.

We won 3-0 that day thanks to goals from Aubameyang and Lacazette – Stoke got relegated that season and haven’t been back to the top flight since. Glorious, and why not break this out again for some Sunday fun (for the record, because I get asked this a lot, I do not do the VO on these things).

Cardiff had three former Gunners in the side yesterday. Chris Willock (brother of Joe) and Ramsey started, while Calum Chambers came off the bench and scored in the penalty shoot-out to send Stoke out. Good lads. As for Ramsey again, he’s always come across as mild-mannered kinda guy, but there’s a serious character in there too. Aside from the Stoke thing, there was a to-do in the dressing room with Robin van Persie which the Dutchman came out the wrong side of; and when legendary cunbtbag Piers Morgan tried to shake his hand after consistently berating him on Twitter, Ramsey said ‘No, I don’t think I want to do that’, leaving that piece of shit to moan about the incident online like the big crybaby wanker he is.

Speaking of wankers, by the way, I know this is the Daily Mail, but this is exactly the kind of stuff Tim was talking about in his column this week.

The language is so aggressive. Maybe, and I do mean maybe, if you say Myles Lewis-Skelly needs to ‘be careful’, it could be the starting point for a discussion (even though I think that too leans into the double-standards that are so prevalent in the coverage of his goal and celebration). But ‘wind your neck in’ is what people say before they start a fight.

It’s absolutely rooted in prejudice, and while he’ll argue this is not about race, it perfectly illustrates what Tim has said in his article. You can be quite sure the sub-editors and headline writers and social media managers know exactly what they’re doing with the language they use, which isn’t to excuse Souness by the way, and the whole things is – even by the standards of that grotesque publication – disgusting.

Anyway, I hope you have a great Sunday wherever you are in the world. Unless you’re a Stoke fan or Piers Morgan.

Till tomorrow.
