Ramos Law buys southeast Denver office for $3M

Attorney Joe Ramos doesn’t have a downtown corner office.

But in southeast Denver, he’ll have an office on a corner.

The head of personal injury firm Ramos Law purchased a 15,600-square-foot building at the corner of Hampden Avenue and Monaco Street in Denver last week for $3 million from UMB Bank. The deal works out to $189 a square foot.

Ramos Law will consolidate offices in east Denver and Centennial, both leased, into the building at 6500 E. Hampden Ave.

“Our business is just really booming down south,” Ramos said.

UMB Bank acquired the property through its 2025 acquisition of Heartland Financial, which operated a Citywide Banks branch there. UMB, which has another branch one block to the east, closed the Citywide branch along with two others in October.

Ramos said he wanted to purchase office space, rather than lease, for his southeast Denver operations. He owns the real estate for some of his other offices and said it helps him control his triple-net expenses — property taxes, insurance and maintenance — which have “ballooned” in Colorado.

“If you put a lot of improvements into someone else’s buildings, it’s rare that you recoup those investments,” he said.

Ramos said his broker, Tanner Digby of Digby Commercial Advisors, identified the property shortly after it hit the market. Ramos liked that it was close to the freeway and not far from Centennial Airport. The latter is helpful for the law firm’s aviation practice, which helps people buy and sell planes and hangars and work through legal issues with pilot licensing.

Also important was the suburban location. Many law firms are still located in high-rises downtown, which Ramos said makes it harder on clients to come in person for consultations and depositions. He sold his office at 17th and Clarkson in Uptown five years ago.

“As a result of the old concentration downtown, there’s fewer attorneys, relatively, in areas like that,” he said of the suburbs.

Ramos, a doctor turned lawyer, founded the firm in 2012 and has expanded to over 300 employees across four divisions and eight offices, from Phoenix to Grand Junction to Colorado Springs.

“I really didn’t think we’d ever grow past four to six employees,” he said.

But Ramos’ background of 15 years practicing medicine helped him gain an edge on the competition in the personal injury niche. He now has three doctors working full time for him, helping clients understand their medical ailments.

“Doctors don’t like attorneys and I know this because I used to deal with attorneys all the time [as a doctor],” Ramos said.

“When I call a doctor … he sees me as a physician.”

The firm is headquartered in a 50,000-square-foot building at Interstate 25 and 104th Avenue in Northglenn and also has practices in consumer protection and bad faith insurance. Ramos said he’s searching for properties to buy in Grand Junction and Colorado Springs, the only two offices he still leases.
