Page and Lilley complete final day line-up for Championship League title battle

Jackson Page won Group G of the Championship League in Leicester to qualify for the final group stage of the season’s first ranking event.

After drawing 2-2 with Northern Irish teenager Robbie McGuigan, the World Open semi-finalist completed victories over Swiss No. 1 Alexander Ursenbacher (3-1) and fellow Welshman Michael White (3-0) to book his spot in the final shootout on Wednesday.

He was joined in reaching the final eight by former World Seniors champion David Lilley, who edged out Scottish and Welsh Open holder Gary Wilson by a point in topping Group F on six points.

Lilley lost 3-1 to Wilson in his section opener, but wins over Ryan Day (3-1) and Joe O’Connor (3-0) were enough to see Lilley secure his progress after Wilson – who produced two fine century breaks in his three matches – was held to 2-2 draws with Day and O’Connor later on Tuesday.

Mark Williams, Martin O’Donnell, Ali Carter and Scott Donaldson are in Group 1 of the final group phase on Wednesday with Page and Lilley joining Long Zehuang and David Gilbert in Group 2.

Stage one consisted of 32 groups of four players. The eight group winners will contest a further two groups with the winners meeting in the final.

There is £33,000 on the table for the winner plus a spot in the Champion of Champions later in the year which is worth another £12,500 for qualifying.
