Oppo Find N5 Photo Suggests the Foldable Crease is Gone

The Oppo Find N5 could rid us of the troublesome foldable display crease forever, if a recent official photo is to be believed.

It’s been a day of talking about foldable phone advances, with the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate promising to give us a pocketable tablet, and the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 set to consign ‘iffy battery life’ to the box marked ‘Yesterday’s foldable problems’.

The Oppo Find N5 is promising to do something similar for another longstanding foldable bugbear of ours: the display crease.

The crease problem

Every foldable to hit the market to date has had some form of unsightly groove running down (or across) the middle of the main screen. Not the Oppo Find N5, at least from what we can see.

Oppo’s Chief Product Officer Pete Lau (who also co-founded OnePlus, smartphone history fans) has taken to X with a remarkable new image of the forthcoming Oppo Find N5.

It shows the new full-sized foldable alongside a mystery competitor, likely a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold of some description – and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 might have a similar trick.

From the angle the photo is taken from, we can clearly see the rival phone’s display big crease. As for the Find N5 device on the left, such a crease is nowhere to be seen.

“No crease detected”, Lau says. While we wouldn’t quite go that far, it’s certainly not very noticeable at all. Bear in mind, too, that this is with the display turned off and with an external light source shining onto it.

Once the Oppo Find N5 screen is in use, we doubt you’ll be able to notice the crease at all.

What else do we know about the Oppo Find N5?

This image would also seem to highlight what a large foldable the Oppo Find N5 is likely to be, at least in terms of its footprint. It rather dwarfs its rival, with a significantly wider display.

Not that we’re expecting the Oppo Find N5 to feel particularly big, as foldables go. Previous leaks have claimed that it’ll be just 4.2mm thick when open, which would make it a fraction thinner than the super-skinny Honor Magic V3.

All of which bodes well for the OnePlus Open 2, which is likely to be cut from the same cloth.

Despite such a thin body, Oppo has confirmed that its foldable will be IPX9 water-resistant. We also know that it’ll support 50W wireless charging, while a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a large 5600mAh battery are expected.

Oppo yesterday revealed that it would be unveiling the Find N5 in just two weeks, which indicates that it’ll be announced on 19 or 20 February.

Not long to wait, and we could then see it in the flesh at MWC 2025 in Barcelona.
