Chelsea are now being linked with both of Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen as their main two targets for their new number 9 before the end of this transfer window on Friday.
It’s very late to try and get such big deals done, but it seems that at the moment it is likely to be one of Toney or Osimhen coming in as the new Chelsea striker this summer.
Osimhen is great and I’d be happy if Chelsea signed him. But for me, Toney is a better fit and makes more sense, and here are the reasons why:
- Hindering Nicolas Jackson: Toney is older and will not block the progress of Jackson. Also, his experience could help Jackson develop and he could learn some other parts of his game from Toney.
- Experience and Premier League proven: This is a huge one for me. Toney has bags of experience and is that bit older. He’s also proven playing in the PL and you know he can mix it with the biggest and best centre backs in this league.
- Link-up play: I think Toney would be more useful for possession based football because he likes to drop in and get involved with the build up play, whereas Osimhen is not too great on the ball and doesn’t hold it up as well.
- Complete 9: Toney also knows where the net is, is a real threat in the air, and can be such a dangerous target man and focal point and is the complete 9 that Chelsea lack and need to add.
That’s my view anyway, I appreciate that others might not agree or have concerns. But for me, Toney to Chelsea should be a no brainer and should be a priority for the club in these final two or three days.
Personally though it’s a win win for me, because I’d be happy if we signed either Osimhen or Toney.
