I wrote this article before the Ipswich defeat but that just elevates even more of what I say below. But just look at the current Premier League table and tell me that this isn’t one of the craziest first halves of season you have witnessed so far!?
Nottingham Forest are SECOND! Liverpool running away with it for now is no surprise, but they’ve literally had ZERO real challengers.
Manchester City were supposed to be those challengers, but Pep Guardiola decided to have the worst half of a season he has ever had as a manager and they fell off, for now at least. Anyone completely writing off City would be a braver person than me.
City are back to 5th after a win on Sunday, but they were down to 7th before that!
The other Manchester club, what on earth is going on there? They were down to 15th in the league at one point and are only 14th place now. Like Chelsea in the last couple of seasons, people have genuinely been speaking about them getting relegated! Imagine that?
Arsenal haven’t performed as well as they were expected to either, and they have some issues and I get a sense of things not being as great as they were recently at that club right now.
Bournemouth have looked very good and they are coming up through the league too, currently in 6th place. I fear our game against them in a couple of weeks time.
Newcastle United are now on a good run after a poor start, but they are only in 7th place.
Aston Villa, who I genuinely expected to at the very least be up in the top 5 or 6, are down in 9th.
I don’t even want to go and look back at my league table positions because they will currently be horrendously out!
What is going on? The beauty of football, that is what.
Nobody expected Chelsea to be where we are right now either. I wrote recently that for clubs like Chelsea, with other of the ‘big clubs’ dropping off right now, there would never be a better chance to genuinely do something this season. I think some of the ‘lesser’ clubs are even seeing this now and using it as a motivation.
And as for Tottenham, they’re being Spursy [11th]….. Enough said! Reasons to smile though for sure!
Roll on the next half of the season, and I have no idea what to expect now! But this is why we all love this game so much!
