Details about how and where Robinson sustained the burns remain unclear at this time.

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson received treatment for second-degree burns after an unspecified incident at a campaign event in Mount Airy on Sept. 27, his campaign said on Friday.

Robinson, the GOP nominee for governor in North Carolina, sustained burns during a campaign appearance at the Mayberry Truck Show in Mount Airy, his campaign communications director Mike Lonergan said in a statement provided to The Epoch Times.

Lonergan said the Republican candidate was treated at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy for second-degree burns but will continue his gubernatorial campaign as scheduled.

“He is in good spirits, appreciates the outpouring of well wishes, and is excited to return to the campaign trail as scheduled first thing tomorrow morning,” Lonergan stated.

Details about how and where Robinson sustained the burns remain unclear at this time. His campaign has not yet provided details about the circumstances of his injury.

Robinson shared in a social media post early Friday that he was excited to return to the campaign trail. He also posted photos from his campaign event in Moore County.

“Folks, it’s great to be back on the campaign trail! Moore County Republicans are working hard—we are united and ready to take our state and country back on Nov. 5,” he stated on X.
The incident occurred just days after Robinson announced that his campaign had hired the Binnall Law Group to investigate a CNN report detailing incendiary comments he allegedly made online between 2008 and 2012.

Robinson said attorney Jesse Binnall, a partner at the Binnall Law Group who previously worked for former President Donald Trump, and his team will investigate where the “false smears” originated.

“As I’ve said from the beginning, the claims from CNN are salacious lies,” the Republican candidate said in a statement posted to his Facebook page on Sept. 25.

“I am confident that Binnall Law Group will leave no stone unturned and enable us to use every legal means to hold CNN accountable for their lies,” he added.

In another update on Sept. 26, Robinson said that he had provided “complete cooperation and full transparency” to Binnall and his team as they began a “full-scale” investigation into the allegations.
After CNN’s report on Sept. 19, Robinson received calls from some Republicans to end his campaign, while several of Robinson’s campaign staff have resigned.
Robinson has vehemently denied making the statements and expressed in a video message on Sept. 19 his intent to remain in the race, saying: “We are staying in this race. We are [in] it to win it.”
