Noir shooter Mouse: P.I. For Hire finally has a release date

A release date for Mouse: P.I. For Hire was officially revealed today during the Galaxies Gaming Showcase on Thursday, just a little over a year since the game was first announced. The uniquely stylish noir shooter will arrive on March 19, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire is the debut title from indie developer Fumi Games, and published by PlaySide Studios, known for games like Kill Knight and the upcoming Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. Developers have snagged a big name to play protagonist Jack Pepper, with Troy Baker taking on the role of the mystery-solving mouse. Set in the seedy town of Mouseburg, players “must unravel a complex web of intrigue, with corruption, kidnapping and murder all on the docket,” according to a press release.

From its incredibly-detailed, old-timey aesthetic to its jazzy soundtrack, there are many things that stand out about Mouse: P.I. For Hire. It feels reminiscent of Cuphead in some ways, but darker and grittier. One of the most interesting features of the game is the way it leans into its cartoonish inspirations when it comes to Jack Pepper’s weapons.

A deep dive video from lead producer Maciek Krzemien went into detail on what he calls “experimental weapons.” These range from slightly more straightforward things like a freeze gun, to a toxic turpentine gun that melts away enemies, and a special ray that Krzemien describes as a “lethal form of mind control.”

Players will be able to utilize weapons like these — with the full arsenal containing over a dozen options — across 20 different levels of fast-paced combat. The press release also teases “unlockable movement abilities and Metroidvania-inspired level traversal,” yet another interesting twist Mouse: P.I. For Hire has thrown into the mix. Players will only have to wait a few more months until they can see all the mystery, action, and stinky cheese that Mouseburg has to offer.
