All of us have dreamed of waking up to the ding ding dinging of Mario collecting coins or the wet rat-a-tat-tat of gunfire in Splatoon. Phone alarms are too modern, too pleasant. That’s probably why Nintendo created the Alarmo, a persistent little alarm clock that will play music and sound effects from games to jolt you out of bed. And now you can finally get one outside the walls of Nintendo, and without a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
You get the red alarm clock — Nintendo apparently ditched the idea for other colors during development — and all 35 wake-up “scenes” from popular Switch games, like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. These scenes start off by playing music, but will fire off different sounds based on the movement the clock detects from you in bed.
Different alarm settings will change how the Alarmo behaves in the morning. Steady Mode increases the intensity of the sounds to try to force you out of bed. Gentle Mode keeps the noises consistent. And Button Mode just enables a snooze button.
When it’s time to sleep, the Alarmo can also play soothing sounds to make you drowsy. Once you drift off, it will log your sleep patterns so you can see if all that time scrolling through TikTok is holding you back. The data isn’t as robust as you get with a sleep tracking app, but it can give you a good idea of how you’re doing over the course of a month.
