Newcastle set record-breaking price tag for Alexander Isak

Newcastle United will challenge clubs to break the British transfer record if they want to sign striker Alexander Isak, it has been reported.

Isak, 25, has dazzled since his move to Newcastle in 2022 and is enjoying another excellent campaign, bagging 11 goals in 16 appearances, including seven in his last five outings in the Premier League.

Such form has seen Isak linked with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, while Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all been tipped to try lure the Sweden international back to mainland Europe.

Newcastle, for their part, have no desire to part ways with Isak, and The Telegraph state they have placed an asking price of over £150m on their superstar forward.

A fee of £150m would obliterate the current British record – Chelsea’s £106m signing of Enzo Fernandez – and would make Isak the third most expensive transfer of all time, behind only Kylian Mbappe’s £163m move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2018 and the French side’s £198m acquisition of Neymar 12 months earlier.

Newcastle feel under no pressure to lower their asking price as Isak still has over three years left to run on his current contract, with talks over an extension expected to be held in the coming months as well.

Crucially, Newcastle are known to be at the mercy of the Premier League’s financial regulations, which forced them to entertain offers for winger Anthony Gordon last summer before the eventual sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.

A significant offer for Isak may not be rejected immediately, but Newcastle have plenty of other players who they would look to sell before entertaining offers for Isak, while there is also hope that their recent resurgence will lead to a return to European football and the riches that come with it.
