After the box office smash of Inside Out 2, Moana 2 has continued the sequel success trend, with an incredible opening over Thanksgiving. The film has already grossed over $400 million worldwide and could be on track to break the billion-dollar mark as we head into the Christmas season.
Moana, now an experienced sailor, receives a vision from her ancestor Tautai Vasa. According to him, the evil god Nalo, desiring power over mortals, has sunk the island of Motufetu, linking all islands and securing the connection of humans to the ocean. Moana is the only person who can pull Motufetu to the surface and restore the old order.
Moana can count on help from the shapeshifting demi-god Maui, her pet pig and rooster, as well as Maui fanboy Moni, craftswoman Loto, and grumpy elderly farmer Keke. The whole group embarks on an adventure inspired by Polynesian mythology.
The tale of Moana and her friends is best seen on the big screen. However, if you already feel like rewatching the animation, here is when it may be available on home media.

Currently, the animation is available exclusively in cinemas in the US and UK.
In the US, you can book tickets on AMC Theatres or Fandango websites.
In the UK, tickets are available on Vue, Showcase, Odeon or Cineworld.

When could Moana 2 be released on VOD?
Walt Disney Studios hasn’t revealed when the film may premiere on digital. However, we will estimate the possible date based on the previous releases of the studios’ movies.
Disney’s two previous blockbusters, Deadpool and Wolverine and Inside Out 2, appeared on VOD 67 days after the theatrical release. Moana 2 will likely follow a similar path. If that happens, the film could be available for purchase or rental in January/February 2025. Since digital releases usually take place on Tuesdays or Fridays, possible dates are Friday, 31 January or Tuesday, 4 February.
However, remember that these dates are only estimates. We’ll update this article when Disney provides more information.
When could Moana 2 be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
The release date of Moana 2 on DVD and Blu-ray is also unknown. However, Disney usually doesn’t delay releasing physical copies of its films. Deadpool 3 and Inside Out 2 appeared on store shelves only 3 weeks after debuting on VOD.
Thus, there’s a good chance that Moana 2 will arrive on VOD and Blu-ray after 20 February 2025.

When could Moana 2 be released on streaming services?
Moana 2 will find its streaming home on Disney+, and it could happen quite quickly. Inside Out 2 hit the service 15 days after physical copies were released. Deadpool and Wolverine needed slightly more time and appeared on Disney+ three weeks after debuting on DVD and Blu-ray.
If Moana 2 follows the same pattern, the film may drop on Disney+ in early-to-mid March 2025.
