The richest woman in the world has an inheritance that’s worth the same as 20 Buckingham Palaces.

The world today is brimming with riches—wealth flows all around us. But what if we told you there’s one woman whose fortune is so staggering, it defies imagination? Meet Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, the wealthiest woman on the planet. Her net worth? A jaw-dropping £76 billion ($99.5 billion). To put it into perspective, her fortune is equivalent to more than 20 Buckingham Palaces combined! It’s a sum so vast, it feels almost impossible to comprehend.

Richest woman in the world is heiress of the L’Oréal cosmetics empire

The heiress to the L’Oreal cosmetics empire has taken the place as the world’s richest woman according to Forbes and we are not even talking millions. In fact her worth is so much that its hard to even compare tangibly with anything else. Difficult enough to imagine a million but billions is a whole other story.  The greatest comparison, just to give an idea of this excess is comparing not one, but 20 Buckingham Palaces – a bargain value at £3.9 billion.

Bettencourt Meyers, now aged 71, inherited the fortunte due to her family who had a 33 per cent stake in L’Oréal. It was founded by her grandfather, Eugène Schueller in 1909 and continues to be a leading giant in the cosmetics world. The L’Oréal industry has grown and grown since its birth in the early 20th century and is now worth £150 billion.

The wealthy heiress lives in Paris and has two children. She is the chairperson of her own family’s investment firm, Téthys Invest, which manages a range of services from pet care, fashion, to education. She inherited the abundant inheritance in 2017 following the death of her mother, Liliane Bettencourt, inheriting too the new title of world’s richest woman as her mother had once been.

Bettencourt Meyers has a record-breaking yet gives money to charity

Bettencourt Meyers has not hoarded the money for herself and has used the fortune to support cultural and philanthropic projects. She even pledged £176 million ($226 million) in an agreement with L’Oréal in 2019 to help with the reconstruction of Notre Dame Cathedral after the notorious fire, which destroyed several parts of the historical and cultural landmark. She doesn’t flaunt her wealth either, preferring to keep a low profile and focus on her family and business and even spends time writing – she is the author of several academic works including commentaries on the Bible.

Despite experiencing a dip in her fortune earlier this year due to market fluctuations, Bettencourt Meyers remains a powerhouse in the business world. Her financial position secures her place among the global elite, while her family’s deep-rooted connection to L’Oréal ensures her wealth and influence are poised to endure for years to come.
