Liverpool news: Arne Slot behaviour branded 'classless' as Mo Salah hammered in angry rant

It’s been a rough couple of months for Liverpool and things went from bad to worse on Saturday as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield

There’s no hiding from it now – Liverpool are in a full-blown crisis. A 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday has dragged them into the bottom half of the table and all but extinguished any faint hope of successfully defending their Premier League crown.

It was their sixth loss in seven league games and their second consecutive 3-0 humiliation. To make matters worse, Liverpool have slipped below neighbours Everton, who climbed above them on goal difference after their 1-0 win over Manchester United on Monday night.

The pressure isn’t just building on Arne Slot – it’s threatening to engulf him – and the Dutchman needs to turn the tide quickly to avoid losing what, only a few weeks ago, felt like an unlosable job. Here, Mirror Football breaks down the latest Liverpool-related headlines.

Slot labelled ‘classless’

Paul Scholes has branded Slot’s end-of-season trip to Ibiza “classless” and “disrespectful,” suggesting Liverpool’s recent collapse may have its roots in the lax atmosphere that appeared to surround the club at the time.

The Dutch manager raised eyebrows in May when he was spotted in a DJ booth on the Spanish island, despite Liverpool still having two matches left in the 2024/25 campaign. Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes didn’t hold back, taking aim at Slot’s behaviour.

“I think this [Liverpool’s poor form] started towards the end of last season,” the Manchester United legend said. “Remember when they won the league? The bad form started. They went away, weren’t they in Ibiza or something? Arne Slot was DJing. Yeah, he was DJing in Ibiza. I think that’s disrespectful. Before the season’s done, I think it’s classless, that.”

While Scholes stopped short of outright blaming the Ibiza trip for Liverpool’s current troubles, he insisted the warning signs were visible at the back-end of last season and that the Reds should have paid closer attention.

Salah takes a hammering

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has launched a blistering critique of Mohamed Salah following the Egyptian forward’s sluggish start to the season. After netting 34 goals in all competitions last term, Salah has struggled to find his rhythm, scoring just three non-penalty league goals so far.

While acknowledging that Liverpool’s woes run deeper than any individual, Souness singled out Salah for “not turning up,” accusing the talisman of shirking his responsibilities at a time when the team most needs him to lead from the front.

“I think it’s his brother who has turned up this season,” Souness said on talkSPORT. “I saw an incident in the Community Shield – I’m looking for little signals – he had his back to the sideline and a ball is played up towards the Crystal Palace left-back. He’s not going to win it, he’s not the most physical type, but he could at least go and try and make life difficult for the full-back. He made no attempt to make that challenge.

“He’s shown a lack of appetite. I’m sorry but hard words are sometimes the kindest words and I think he needs hard words and ultimately they’ll get him back to being the superstar that he’s been for Liverpool. This season he has not turned up.”
