Liam Rosenior is a refreshing spokesperson for Chelsea in the media – opinion

I said when I first listened to Liam Rosenior as the new Chelsea manager that actions speak louder than words. And so far, at least in terms of our results, actions are speaking louder than his words. But it has to keep up, of course. It’s very early doors.

But I think that Rosenior, in terms of saying all the right things and hearing him speak in public, is my favourite manager to listen to since Jose Mourinho. This is not designed to over-hype, and please know that I am only saying that I like what he says in public. I am NOT saying he is anywhere near the level of Mourinho as a manager yet, or will ever get there. I just enjoy what he says, and those of you who have been in this community for some time will know that one of my biggest gripes is managers saying what I believe to be the wrong things in press conferences and having the wrong attitudes and mentalities.

Rosenior’s attitude is TOP. It’s so refreshing to have a manager who knows just what to say. And you know it’s just him being true as well; this isn’t media training, this isn’t him pretending to be someone he’s not. This is legit the real Liam we see in interviews.

He says (almost) all the right things. When I say almost, it is the ‘everyone is outstanding’ comments that I don’t love, even if I can understand why he wants to say that. But no, not every player is outstanding Liam! Other than that, his public speaking has been fantastic, and the latest comments I also love.

We all know that criticism and mockery is all part of being famous, and unfortunately, so is abuse, even if that’s very wrong. But they just have to accept that the two aforementioned points are just part of it I’m afraid, and Liam is accepting that.

It is bound to affect people in different ways and it will also affect people’s families in different ways to how it might affect the individual. But it is always going to be there.

Everyone has a phone in their hand these days, everyone sees social media, it is impossible to avoid it even if you want to.

As relayed by The Sun reporter Lloyd Canfield, Rosenior said:

“It affects them. It affects my parents, it affects my family.

“But I knew walking into this job it was going to happen. It’s normal. So for me, when you’re prepared for it, it makes you smile.

“I’m a confident person. And if you’re affected by things like that you shouldn’t be in this job. There’s no way you can do this job if you’re affected negatively by it.

“I quite enjoy it, to be honest. You know, I didn’t help myself with my first touch at Arsenal…”

I think that’s a superb way to react, taking it all in his stride and saying that he even enjoys it. He is taking it like banter, and banter will always be in this sport. So, fair play Liam, that’s a great way to respond. I do feel for his family though, it can’t be easy now he is suddenly in the spot light.
