Hollywood director Rob Reiner and wife found dead as police investigate.

LEGENDARY American director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, have been found dead in their Brentwood home on the afternoon of Sunday, December 14, with apparent knife wounds. The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating an apparent homicide and had previously interviewed Reiner’s family members on the evening of Sunday to gather more details about the circumstances of the horrific event.

Dispatch audio reveals a firefighter calling for backup to the couple’s Brentwood mansion on Chadbourne Avenue at around 3:30pm on Sunday afternoon. Afterwards, the Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed the identities of victims Rob, 78, and wife Michele, 68. According to the LAPD Deputy Police Chief, Alan Hamilton, no arrests have yet been made and detectives will not be seeking out anyone as a suspect or person of interest until the investigation has been conducted.
According to Hamilton, a search warrant must first be obtained to meet legal requirements before proceeding with the investigation. Once obtained, the case will be handled by the Robbery Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. The coroner’s office will officially confirm the cause of death.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a family spokesperson said. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Rob Reiner, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker and actor in Hollywood, was known for his work directing films including When Harry Met Sally, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men. Son of the famed comedian Carl Reiner, Rob began his career as a comedy writer in the 1960s, beginning work as Steve Martin’s writing partner on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1968 and 1969.
Rob Reiner’s breakout role was as Archie Bunker’s son-in-law, Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the 1970s television show, All in the Family, which ran for a total of 205 episodes and ended in 1979. He won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for the programme.
His first smash hit as a director was the 1984 rock mockumentary This is Spinal Tap.
His recent work as an actor includes his role as Jess’ father, Bob, on the highly popular television show New Girl, or his role as businessman Albert Schnur in season 4 of smash hit series The Bear.
Michele Reiner, an accomplished producer and Rob’s indispensable collaborator
Rob met his future wife, Michele Reiner, a photographer, while directing When Harry Met Sally, and the two married in 1989. Apparently, their real-life romance was the inspiration for Rob to change the ending of the film so that the two main characters, portrayed by Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, would end up together.
Michele Reiner was an accomplished producer, actor and photographer and collaborated with Reiner on many of his projects. She began her career as a photographer, working on the MysteryDisc video games and the Reiner-directed thriller, Misery. She produced various works including Reiner films Shock and Awe and Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, and was nominated for an Emmy for her work producing the documentary Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which her husband Rob also directed.
Rob and Michele had three children together during their over 35-year marriage; Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob Reiner also had an adopted daughter, Tracy Reiner, from his previous marriage to ex-wife and fellow director and actress, Penny Marshall.
Reiner was a stark advocate for liberal causes; Democratic leaders share words of mourning
Reiner was also a well-known advocate for liberal causes and the Democratic Party in the United States. Along with Hollywood, Democratic leaders are mourning the loss of the Hollywood legend. Former President Barack Obama said he and his wife, Michelle, were “heartbroken” by the tragedy.
“Beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people – and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action,” wrote Mr Obama in a statement on X. “Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired.”
Former House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi also shared words of remembrance for the tragic incident. “Rob was creative, funny, and beloved. And in all of their endeavors, Michele was his indispensable partner, intellectual resource, and loving wife.”
The legendary Hollywood figure’s final directorial project has been completed, according to his IMDb profile, and is set to come out next year. The project consists of live concert footage of the fictional band, Spinal Tap playing at Stonehenge along with other major music artists.
