King Charles and Queen Camilla are reportedly preparing for a significant royal tour to Canada and the United States, marking the King’s first official visit to both nations as a reigning monarch.
The tour has been described in various reports as a “charm offensive” aimed at reinforcing diplomatic relations with President Donald Trump, who is known to have an admiration for the British Royal Family.
According to The Mirror, discussions between the UK and US governments are already underway, with an official invitation expected soon. The tour is tentatively scheduled for spring 2025, though no official confirmation has been made by Buckingham Palace or the White House as of yet.
The King’s relationship with Trump
The tour follows recent comments from Trump regarding Prince Harry’s US residency. Despite previously suggesting he might take action on the Duke of Sussex’s visa status, Trump recently told the New York Post, “I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife.” The Sun reported that Trump’s decision was influenced by his respect for King Charles and his desire to maintain good relations with the Royal Family.
The two leaders met twice during Trump’s first term, including a state visit in 2019 where Charles and Camilla hosted Trump and former First Lady Melania at Clarence House. Trump has previously spoken warmly of the King, saying on Truth Social: “King Charles has cancer. He is a wonderful man, who I got to know well during my presidency, and we all pray that he has a fast and full recovery!”
If the tour proceeds, it will be the first time a British monarch has visited the US since 2007, when Queen Elizabeth II travelled to Washington.
However, palace sources have downplayed speculation, with one telling the Daily Mail: “There are no current dates in the diary for Their Majesties to tour either Canada or the USA, or active Palace planning taking place for either option.”
Meanwhile, Charles and Camilla are set to undertake a separate state visit to Italy and the Vatican in April, where they will meet Pope Francis as part of the 2025 Jubilee Year celebrations.
