Jude Bellingham reacts after ending lengthy Real Madrid goal drought

Jude Bellingham finally netted his first goal of the 2024/25 season during Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over Osasuna, ending his 179 day drought.

The England international had failed to net in any of Los Blancos’ previous fixtures of the campaign, last etching his name onto the scoresheet in May during a 5-0 win against Alaves. Madrid’s tough start to the season, combined with Barcelona’s new-found form, has made life in La Liga considerably more difficult than in 2023/24 – when Carlo Ancelotti’s side became champions of both Spain and Europe.

But, positives are finally starting to show for Madrid, and Bellingham, who was able to score his first goal of the season during Saturday’s rollercoaster win.

Sharing his thoughts on Instagram after Madrid’s successful clash, Bellingham said: “Even in s**t times, giving up is not an option. Madridistas, thank you for your incredible support in the good moments and the bad ones.”

The La Liga star also took the time to speak to Real Madrid TV after scoring his first goal since May, explaining why his role has changed within the team this season.

“I think it was our most complete performance,” he said. “We pressed high up, controlled the possession and created chances to score. It all started with the way we began the game. We started strong and kept it up for the whole game. All the players excelled today [Saturday].

“I played as I always do, but this time I scored a goal. There was a lot of talk because last season I scored a lot of goals and my role this season has changed. I do other things for other areas of the pitch, I’d do anything for the good of the team. Maybe I’ve been less selfish, I’d like to continue like that, my aim is to help the team in any way I can.

“I still feel the most privileged person in the world to play for this great club. Even in the bad times I’m very grateful to be here. When they gave me a standing ovation I felt very special and proud. It makes me emotional. I do it for all these people, so that they can enjoy the game and go home happy.”

Madrid return to action after the November international break, facing Leganes on 24 November ahead of their Champions League clash with Liverpool three days later.
