Is Spotify down? If you’re experiencing problems with the popular music streaming service and wondering if it’s just you, then here’s how to check.
In the age of the internet, it’s inconvenient when services like Spotify go offline, but here’s how to check whether it’s Spotify’s fault or something else like your internet connection.
16 April 2025: A major outage is affecting Spotify, which started at 1pm BST (8am ET). It’s unknown when the issue will be resolved.
Update 5pm BST: Although Spotify hasn’t provided an official update, the service does seem to be working again for most users, while some may be experiencing issues. I can stream music and use search without issue.
According to Downdetector, a reliable source for service status information, tens of thousands of users have reported issues in both the UK and US.

Spotify’s Status account on X says the firm is aware of the issues and is vaguely “checking them out”.
A further update at 3:39 BST states that Spotify is working to fix the outage with no time frame, along with a note stating it’s not due to a security hack.
A spokesperson for Spotify told TechRadar that “the issue with Search has been addressed and an update has begun rolling out to all users” but it seems to be a much larger problem.
While some can play downloaded music, I couldn’t even get Spotify to load in a desktop browser. A message said “upstream request timeout”.
