How a Smartwatch Can Help You Study Better

It’s back to school season and although devices like laptops and tablets might spring to mind, you should consider a smartwatch.

While it might not seem like an obvious companion for your time in education, there are various ways it can help you study better. Allow me to make the case for smartwatches, which could help you make the grade.

Time keeping

Ok, this is pretty obvious, but a smartwatch is going to help you keep track of the time but there’s more to it than just telling you it’s 3:04pm when you raise your wrist.

Smartwatches are able to sync up with your calendar so they can alert you to upcoming events like deadlines and lectures. They can also take into account how long it will take you to get there and prompt you to leave on time, then give you directions whether you’re driving or walking.

Sleep

Though you are likely to be out partying late into the night, your smartwatch will help you sleep. After all, it’s pretty important to how you feel and how able you are to focus on your studies.

Smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 come with sleep tracking so wear them in bed and in the morning you’ll get detailed stats on how you slept. It can be unhelpful to be told you slept badly (ignorance can be bliss) but over time your smartwatch will learn your routine and make suggestions on how you can get better sleep.

Many will have something like an energy or readiness-style score which is affected by sleep and activity. It will guide you on how much you should take on and when to rest and recover.

Fitness

Keeping fit is good for your body but also your mind and the more you’re able to look after yourself the better you will be able to study.

Smartwatches are built around tracking your activity, even if you just take note of how many steps you’ve taken in a day or how many calories you’ve burned.

However, you can go a lot further should you wish with tracking for lots of different activities and sports from rowing to archery depending on what model you buy. Devices like the new Google Pixel Watch 3 come with real-time run coaching and the ability to quickly plan custom sessions.

Some may even be able to tell you when you’re getting ill so you can get ahead of it.

Stress management

Alongside sleep and fitness, most smartwatches have some element of stress and wellness tracking. Though they can be inaccurate and therefore unhelpful at even a basic level, most will have guided breathing exercises to help you when you are stressed.

Even using one to focus on your breathing for a minute can make a big difference, lowering your heart rate and helping you feel more calm. If you do this right before an exam or an important presentation, then it could make a big difference to the result.

Those are the main ways a smartwatch can help you study but there are plenty of smaller helpful features that all add up to making daily life easier.

Even just easy access to apps, digital assistants, music playback, contactless payments, audio notes and more will save you time and hassle. They’re also less distracting than a smartphone or tablet.

If I’ve convinced you then it’s time to choose one and our list of best smartwatches is the best place to do that.
