Greeley Stampede announces three inductees into its Hall of Fame

Three new inductees are heading into the Greeley Stampede Hall of Fame.

Bill Hall, Jerry Pickett and the Norcross Family will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as its 2025 class, the Stampede announced in a news release.

“The legacy of the Greeley Stampede is built by dedicated people that are passionate about our community,” Stampede CEO Justin Watada said in the release. “It’s important to our organization that we show our gratitude to those that really made an impact on our journey to where we are today.”

Hall has been a volunteer for more than 40 years. He has served as general chairman of the Stampede committee, president of the Wrangler organization and an active member of the Old Buckers group. He also helped start the Stampede Celebrity Golf Tournament and the Trail Rides.

Pickett started volunteering with the Wranglers in 1991. From there, he served on the Stampede committee from 1994-98. During his time, he was instrumental in growing the Independence Day Parade, including the televised 75th anniversary parade. He has also worked for the city of Greeley as the streets superintendent for the past 44 years.

Members of the Norcross family are credited with organizing the first Greeley Spud Rodeo and Horse Show, which is now called the Greeley Stampede. In 1921, J.W. (Warrack) Norcross, persuaded the Greeley Chamber of Commerce to sponsor the event and for the local merchants to fund the first official Greeley Fourth of July celebration. The Norcross family’s legacy of involvement continued as Fred Norcross served on the committee from 1924-26. Their dedication and commitment have helped shape the event into the cherished community tradition it is today.

An induction ceremony dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, March 28 at Zoe’s Cafe, 715 10th St, Greeley. The dinner will honor the newest inductees as well as recipients of the newly established Legacy Award.

The Legacy Award celebrates and honors those who have been passionate about the Stampede over the years in ways that aren’t traditionally recognized but are crucial to the event’s success.

Jim and Barb Welch are the inaugural recipients of the Legacy Award. The two have been volunteering at the Stampede for more than 40 years.

“They are the heart and soul of the rodeo contestant hospitality program, and their commitment to providing homemade meals keeps our contestants coming back year after year with a smile,” the Stampede release said.

Tickets for the induction ceremony dinner are $45 for individual tickets, $300 for a table of eight. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Contact Stampede Ticket Manager Katie Baker at 970-356-7787 or email her at katie@greeleystampede.org to purchase tickets.
