Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade Gets New Trailer Explaining its World and Factions

Getting ready for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on January 22, 2026, Square Enix has released a new trailer for the action RPG. Rather than focusing on the gameplay or visuals, the trailer instead provides a primer on the world of Final Fantasy 7 Remake as well as the different factions all working together or against each other. Check it out below.

As the trailer notes, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade takes place entirely in the dystopian city of Midgar. One of the members of Avalanche, Jesse, explains the city, its layout, and how the city is powered by Mako reactors. The primary antagonist in the game is the Sinra Electric Power Company, which runs the Mako reactors and itself is run by CEO and president Shinra, with his son Rufus taking on the role of vice president.

Shinra itself is also supported by the Turks – essentially a crew of black ops operatives that can step in when the company needs to get its hands dirty without taking too much negative publicity. These factions are opposed by Avalanche – referred to in Midgar as an extremist eco-terrorists, and the game itself kicks things off with protagonist Cloud joining Avalanche on a mission to bomb one of the Mako reactors.

The central antagonist of the overall Final Fantasy 7 story is Sephiroth—a legendary SOLDIER who was regarded as a hero but was thought to have died in the line of duty five years before the events of the game.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is the first major step that Square Enix is taking with the trilogy in bringing it to more platforms. In a social media post earlier this month, the company had confirmed that it would be bringing the rest of the trilogy to more platforms as well. This means that we’re likely to see a Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S release for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth as well.

The company’s wording in its statement also implied that the eventual third game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy will also eventually make its way on to multiple platforms right from launch. This means that it won’t just come out exclusively on PlayStation before then getting ported to other platforms over the course of a year or two, as we saw with Remake and Rebirth.

For Nintendo Switch 2 users who are looking forward to playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, it is worth noting that the title will need almost 90 GB of free storage space on the system. Even the physical release won’t offer much relief here, since the game will be sold on a Game-Key Card, which ultimately still needs its files to be downloaded over the Internet.
