Street Fighter 6 Tekken 8 Virtua Fighter 5 REVO and Virtua Fighter 6 Guilty Gear Strive x Cyberpunk Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Invincible VS Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising Hunter X Hunter Nen X Impact Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes

Evolution Championship Series 2025 went down in Las Vegas over the weekend, and a lot happened.

There were nail-biting tournaments from Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, and Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes that had us on the edge of our seats. FGC legends like Sonic Fox extended their dominance to eight Evo titles with a remarkable win in Mortal Kombat 1. Participants at the fighting game event also got a chance to experience Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls for the first time. But amid all the spectacle, Evo 2025 also had some new reveals for fighting game fanatics to look forward to for all of their favorite titles.

From new characters to forthcoming closed beta announcements, here is all the news from the biggest weekend in the fighting game community.

Street Fighter 6

Capcom showed off the first new DLC character from Street Fighter 6 season 3: C. Viper, a fighter who hasn’t appeared as a playable character since Street Fighter 4 and is expected to launch in fall 2025. She’s got a revealing new look.

Additionally, Capcom released a trailer showcasing the long-awaited Outfit 4 costumes — all of which are (also revealing) swimsuits. The first wave of Outfit 4 costumes will be available for Chun-Li, Cammy, Jamie, AKI, Kimberly, Luke, and Manon upon release on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Tekken 8

Bandai Namco released a trailer for the final two characters for its Tekken 8 season 2 pass: Armor King and Miary Zo. While Armor King was previously teased in May, the new teaser paints AK as an even bigger foil to King, with a dirtier play style that would probably make the NWO blush. Miary Zo, on the other hand, is a brand-new fighter from Madagascar. Her teaser video was just that: a tease. The clip was only seconds long and showcased her design and bubbly demeanor. While no other information was provided, Bandai Namco confirmed that she will be released alongside the Baobab Horizon stage. Armor King will be released on Oct. 16.

Virtua Fighter 5 REVO and Virtua Fighter 6

Sega showcased a brief glimpse at the forthcoming untitled New Virtua Fighter Project (aka Virtua Fighter 6), with a very detailed fight between Akira and VF newcomer Stella Bryant — no, that’s not Sarah — battling on the game’s training arena. Elsewhere, Virtua Fighter 5 REVO is set to receive a massive update soon; the update is called the “World Stage” update, as the title prepares to be released for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. The update will also bring forth a new single-player mode and add Dural, VF5’s final boss, as a playable character.

Guilty Gear Strive x Cyberpunk

Arc System Works gave fans a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming and final season 4 DLC character Lucy — a fighter from the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime. Lucy is set to be released on Aug. 21. Furthermore, Guilty Gear Strive is scheduled to undergo a total makeover in 2026 with Arc Sys unveiling a 2.00 update for the game. The trailer for GGS 2.00 featured two character silhouettes, sparking speculation that the figures could potentially be Jam Kuradoberi and Robo-Ky. No other details were provided on the massive update.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

SNK released additional gameplay for Street Fighter’s Ken Masters, joining Terry and crew in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Ken is playable now in City of the Wolves, while his World Warrior contemporary Chun-Li is slated to join the latest Fatal Fury in winter 2025.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is scheduled to undergo a closed beta test on PS5 from Sept. 5 to 7. Players interested in participating in the event can register here.

Invincible VS

Invincible VS received a gameplay trailer for the long-awaited fighter Omni-Man, which showcased his brutal combos and overwhelming power.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising

DLC character Wilnas is set to be the next fighter for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising and will be released on Tuesday, Aug. 5. A huge update for the fighting game will be released that same day, with “EX” versions of the characters becoming playable. The “EX” characters will have new play styles and special moves that differ from the regular versions of the fighters.

Capcom also issued a free update to Capcom Fighting Collection 2. The free update adds new tracks to the game’s massive OST, art, and new characters (Maki, Yun, Eagle, and Ingrid) for Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper. Capcom Fighting Collection 2’s update arrives on Thursday, Aug. 7.

Hunter X Hunter Nen X Impact

Hunter X Hunter Nen X Impact players received news that season 1 DLC character Neferpitou will release in fall 2025, while a full preview of the season pass showed off three other character silhouettes. Fans online have speculated that these fighters could be Zeno, Phinks, and Shizuku.

Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes

Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes hit the stage with some DLC of its own; a new fighter named Izumi received a gameplay trailer and will be released on Aug. 18 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC, and on Aug. 20 for Nintendo Switch.
