Strikes are a regular occurrence in Europe, as employees withhold their labour to fight for better pay and conditions.

Walkouts are sometimes planned months ahead but others are announced last minute, showing that it always pays to check before you travel.

Luckily, we have gathered all of the strike information together below.

Read on to find out where and when are walkouts taking place.

If your flight or train is cancelled or delayed, you will be entitled to a new ticket or compensation. Read our guide for the full details.

UK: London Tube strikes called off

After receiving an improved pay offer, RMT union members have called off plans for a Tube strike that was set to bring London to a standstill this week.

Underground train drivers with the Aslef union have also now suspended strikes planned on 7 and 12 November to allow for ongoing talks.

Italy: Nationwide train and plane strike

Public and private sector workers around Italy have planned a 24-hour general strike on 29 November.

The strike is in protest against the government’s 2025 budget plan, which includes cuts to spending on social security, services and public transport, union leaders say.

Around 50,000 workers across the country, including staff at Italy’s flagship airline ITA Airways, are expected to take part in the strike.

Public transport companies in major cities such as ATAC in Rome and EAV in Naples said that their services may be subject to changes or cancellations on that date.

Baggage handlers at airports in Milan are expected to walk out, as well as WizzAir staff, potentially impacting flights across the country.

The advice to passengers is to check your transport will be running as scheduled before leaving home.

France: easyJet workers file indefinite strike notice

French staff at budget airline easyJet filed an indefinite strike notice which started in September and runs until 16 December. It is in protest over the company’s plan to close its Toulouse hub.

Exact dates for walk outs are yet to be announced, but strike action could hit easyJet operations across the country in the coming weeks.

France: Trains could be disrupted over Christmas

Trade unions are in a dispute with SNCF and have called for unlimited strikes in France from 11 December if their demands are not met.

The unions are demanding a moratorium on the dismantling of Fret SNCF, the freight division of the national rail operator, and protesting against the terms and conditions for opening up regional lines to competition.

Following a strike day on 21 November, they have called for a longer and stronger strike (‘un mouvement de grève plus long et plus fort’) from 11 December.

These strikes are likely to cause major disruption. This article will be updated as we recieve more information.

If you know of a big strike happening in your country that we have missed, we’d love to hear from you via Twitter.
