Enterprise Ireland backs New AI-Powered Ed-Tech Spin-out, MESO, to Ease Teacher Workload

A new education technology spin-out from the ADAPT Centre at Trinity College Dublin has secured €500,000 in Enterprise Ireland funding to bring its AI-driven curriculum planning platform to schools across Ireland and abroad.

MESO, founded by teacher and CEO, Dr Chris Byrne, uses artificial intelligence to automate planning, generate aligned assessments, and produce curriculum-specific study guides. The platform aims to significantly reduce teacher workload and support more personalised learning for students.

The technology, which stems from Dr Byrne’s research in curriculum change and the psychology of educational decision making, aims to directly address administrative pressures so educators can focus on students.

Speaking about MESO, Dr Chris Byrne said: “Teachers are being asked to do more than ever, but the infrastructure to support that work simply hasn’t kept pace. By combining educational research with advanced AI, our goal is to give teachers time back to focus on students rather than paperwork. This spin-out is a timely intervention for the sector, and the support from Enterprise Ireland allows us to move from pilot phase to wider deployment.”

MESO is currently piloting the system in multiple Irish schools and plans to scale both nationally and internationally over the coming year. The company is positioning itself within a rapidly expanding global ed-tech market where personalised learning, curriculum alignment and real-time analytics are increasingly sought by schools and policymakers.

Education systems worldwide have raised expectations around planning, assessment and differentiated learning, often without providing the technology required to deliver this at scale. MESO aims to address this gap by offering an integrated ecosystem that connects teacher planning, student learning pathways and school-level oversight.

The company invites schools and education authorities to join MESO’s Fellows Programme, which supports teacher co-design of future features. Schools and teachers interested in the platform can find out more via the MESO website and can arrange a demonstration with the team.
