Eight injured after Russia launches dozens of drones at Ukraine

‘Those who seek negotiations do not deliberately strike civilians with ballistic missiles,’ said Zelenskyy, who has repeatedly demanded effective security guarantees.

Russia launched over 80 drones towards Ukraine overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force reported via a message on Telegram.

“It was confirmed that 46 Shahed attack UAVs and other types of drones were shot down in Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy and Dnipropetrovsk regions,” the message said.

One of the drones struck the top floor of a five-story apartment building in Kharkiv late Sunday, injuring at least eight people.

Another 31 drones were lost without resulting in any damage.

“Over the past week, more than 1,050 attack drones, nearly 1,300 aerial bombs, and more than 20 missiles have been launched at Ukraine,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on social media platform X.

“Those who seek negotiations do not deliberately strike civilians with ballistic missiles. To force Russia to stop its attacks, we need greater collective strength from the world.”

The Ukrainian leader once again reiterated his demand for effective security guarantees in order to achieve long-term peace “that will make the return of Russian aggression impossible,” he added.

Zelenskyy met with leaders and delegates from Europe, Canada and Turkey, at a summit in London over the weekend. The crunch talks were focused on achieving peace in Ukraine.

“European countries (are) really ramping up security guarantees for the moment when a peace deal would be struck,” said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

“Obviously, for the moment there’s no peace deal yet. There’s no ceasefire yet. But we have to prepare for that moment and make sure that European countries are willing to help out with the security guarantees.”
