Even after two weeks, the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2 left my face looking more plump than before. After four weeks of using this mask for three days a week, my skin feels less congested, my fine lines are less noticeable and my skin tone is more even.

If you’ve spent any time on social media, Google or Netflix, chances are you’ve come across the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask. The first version of the beauty gadget was featured on TV in 2022 when Season 3 of Emily in Paris aired, showing Lily Collins’ protagonist Emily rocking the LED mask.
Since then, at-home beauty technology company CurrentBody has released its upgraded second model of the piece of tech to critical acclaim, with the likes of Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan describing the mask as an ‘extra little helper’.
There’s no denying that the upfront cost of LED masks, CurrentBody included, is hefty. But if you tend to pay for a monthly facial, these handy beauty tech gadgets start to look more reasonable.
While I haven’t tested out Series 1 of the CurrentBody’s LED Light Therapy Mask, I have worn Series 2 religiously three times a week for four weeks to test it for Tech Advisor. To find out more, including what I think of the design features, build and performance, read on.

The CurrentBody’s LED Light Therapy Mask: Series 2 is beautifully packaged. Inside the box, you’ll find the mask itself, which is attached to the controller. The controller has a USB-C charging port and one button. This button starts the 10-minute treatment and it will automatically shut off once it’s worked its magic.

Inside the box, you’ll also find a USB-C charger (but no plug) which will charge the mask in full in 4.5 hours, a plush and super-soft storage bag with drawstrings, a user manual, eye inserts and an NFC card, which lets you see the test results of your LED mask.
The black eye inserts can be easily popped into the mask for added comfort. This helps block out any LED light you might see from your peripheral view while using the face mask, along with making the piece of tech a more snug and comfy fit.
To fit the mask, you’ll need to attach the black multi-strap that comes with Velcro pads. While this is easy to do, you will, however, need to grapple with the fit to make sure the strap is long or short enough to secure the mask in the correct position.
One selling point about the CurrentBody’s LED Light Therapy Mask is that it comes with an all-new and improved silicone shape with lip and nose coverage. This makes it pliable, easy to bend and soft when fitted against your face. Unlike some rivals, it also comes with an added chin strap, giving it a larger effective surface area.
Another benefit is the remote’s design. Coming with a clip on the back of it, you can strap it to your clothes, belt or pop it in your pocket if your clothing has one.

On the inside of the mask are 236 LEDs, which the brand says will emit the three most “clinically recognised” wavelengths for anti-ageing. These are:
- Red light (633 nm): This is believed to boost collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Near-infrared (830nm): According to the brand, this helps to firm, tighten and brighten skin
- Deep near-infrared (1072 nm): This boosts collagen production deep under the skin

When you’ve finished with the mask, all you need to do is wipe the inside down with a damp cloth and store it safely in its dust bag.
Performance & Features

Despite how it might look, the mask isn’t painful to use. In fact it doesn’t cause any discomfort and it doesn’t get hot in use. Even when you turn the mask on, you won’t feel anything at all. That’s because the inside of the mask, which sits on your face, is super smooth, so when it’s on, you won’t even know it’s there (apart from the extra 300g of weight strapped to your face).

I tried using the mask both with and without the eye inserts but I’d advise doing the former. The red LEDs are bright, so these handy inserts help to prevent the lights from appearing in your peripheral vision. I’d also recommend putting the mask on before turning the 10-minute programme on – this way, you won’t be temporarily dazzled by the intense red haze. If you need to turn the mask off half way through the treatment, you’ll need to hold the button on the remote down.

To be truthful, I wouldn’t say that the CurrentBody Series 2 comes with tons of features. In one sense, this is a big plus as it’s so easy to use: just find 10 minutes of time for yourself, put the mask on and press the single button on the remote. However, it does mean that you won’t be able to tailor the treatment to any one particular skincare concern.
That said, I think most skincare treatments are best left to the professionals and the CurrentBody Series 2 has certainly been crafted by a bunch of them. Therefore, each time you use the mask you’re getting the benefit of three clinically proven wavelengths, each of which come with a multitude of benefits — like boosting collagen production, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and firming, tightening and brightening skin. And I can confirm that after using this for four weeks, it does just that.
After my first 10-minute treatment I must admit, from all the hype this LED light therapy has received, I was expecting miracles. But the Current Body doesn’t deal in quick fixes, it deals in long-term results. Therefore, after two weeks of use, I noticed that my skin looked more desirably plump. The only thing this mask can’t do? Tell you how much battery is left. Even though I went three weeks before needing to charge this device, it did mean when I came to use it in the fourth week, I had to find out the hard way and savour my nighttime LED routine the following day once it had finished charging. You might also have to play around with the straps to get the mask to fit just the way you want it.
Price and Availability
The CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2 is priced at £399.99 in the UK, and you can buy from CurrentBody or Amazon. It’s $469.99 in the US and it’s also available from Amazon and CurrentBody.
It’s a pricey buy when compared to the Shark CryoGlow LED light mask (£299.99/$349), which Tech Advisor has also tested, and which has the benefit of many more features. It has four light therapy programmes (for blemish repair, ageing and more), a full-colour attached remote with a countdown timer and battery indicator, highly effective under-eye cooling pads, LEDs which automatically dim when you remove the mask and more. Where price and features are concerned, the Shark model is undoubtedly the better buy.
Should you buy the CurrentBody Series 2?
All in all, I’m very impressed with the CurrentBody Series 2. Once you get used to having the mask on your face, it’s the perfect excuse to sit back and relax for 10 minutes while you scroll, read, watch TV or just take 10 to do nada.
Another impressive feat is the difference I have noticed in my skin – and that’s after four weeks! It has reduced redness, given my skin a more even tone and helped turn back the hands of time on fine lines.
As is the case with most things, consistency is key. And the LED mask is no different. Therefore, it’s a wise idea to keep this beauty gadget at hand as a reminder to actually use it.
Either way, I really rate the fact that all the hard work is done for you. While it would be nice to choose a different mode and mix things up, this mask’s USP is that it’s designed to help with anti-ageing. And it more than fulfils that function.
