  • Still only in the US

Google has revealed that conversational photo editing is now available to a host of non-Pixel Android smartphones – though there’s still a major restriction.

Over on the official Google Blog, a new post confirms that a Google Photos feature formerly available only to Pixel phone users is now accessible from other devices.

The ability to make photo edits through natural conversational requests debuted with the Google Pixel 10 before making its way to older Pixel devices.

All eligible users need to do is open an image, tap “Help me edit” in the editor, and tell the editor what to do, either by typing or talking.

By all accounts it’s a remarkably powerful tool, allowing you to move reflections, eliminate unwanted background elements, improve lighting, expand the framing, add objects and more – all using general everyday terms.

US-only and other requirements

We stated at the time our Google Pixel 10 Pro review that we hoped its home in Google Photos would bring the feature to other devices, and so it has proved.

It’s only ‘eligible devices’ that can make use of this feature, but 9to5Google has confirmed that the OnePlus 13 and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 are both included.

There’s another issue with the rollout with this feature, however, and it’s a big one. Our biggest complaint with this conversation photo editing feature at launch was that it was only available to users in the US, and that continues to be the case.

As well as needing to be at least 18 years old, Google specifies that you need to be “an eligible user in the United States” to access this feature.

Indeed, you’ll need to have your Google Account language set to English (United States), as well as having Face Groups turned on and location estimates enabled.

We’ve reached out to Google to ask when conversational editing is coming to the UK, and will update this piece when we hear back.
