The world’s largest airport is being built in China on a man-made island, the Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport. It’s reportedly backed by a £4 billion (€4.6 billion) investment.
The ambitious project will revolutionise infrastructure in the port city of Dalian, located in northeastern China, positioning the region as a major hub for tourism, trade, and logistics.

Once completed in 2035, the Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport will cover a sprawling 20-square-kilometre artificial island, featuring four runways and a massive 900,000-square-metre terminal, according to CNN.
As reported by the airport in an official statement, the facility is designed to handle a whopping 80 million passengers annually and facilitate 540,000 flights, along with one million tonnes of cargo.
The airport will surpass other renowned artificial island airports, including Hong Kong International Airport and Japan’s Kansai Airport, in both scale and capacity.
Dalian city holds 7.5 million residents and is already a key transport hub in East Asia due to its proximity to Japan and South Korea.
The new airport is already creating jobs during its construction phase, and its completion is expected to boost Dalian’s economy by increasing tourism and trade. The city, known for its beaches and coastal appeal, is a popular holiday destination for visitors from Japan, South Korea, and Russia.
