Carlow’s SunArc announces €20m investment amid creation of 50 jobs

The newly acquired funds will be utilised over the next two years as SunArc launches a new solar as a service model.

SunArc, a renewable energy company based in Carlow, has announced a major investment of €20m, as the organisation prepares to launch its solar as a service model later this month.

Funding will be deployed over the course of the next two years, with SunArc stating that it marks a “significant step in accelerating Ireland’s transition to clean energy while creating 50 new skilled employment opportunities”.

SunArc will expand its Carlow operations and there will be job vacancies and opportunities in areas such as installation, engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, customer support, management and renewable energy innovation, with new hires bringing the workforce to 80 employees.

The solar as a service model will enable businesses to access solar power and energy independence with no upfront costs, removing what SunArc believes to be one of the biggest barriers to solar power adoption.

Customers will pay a reduced set energy rate while SunArc manages installation, maintenance, monitoring and upgrades. Furthermore, the businesses that sign-up to the solar as a service power purchase agreement will fully own their solar system after roughly 15 years.

SunArc has stated that the new model has the potential to increase solar adoption across Ireland by helping local communities reduce energy costs, cut carbon emissions and strengthen energy independence during a time of rising electricity prices.

Commenting on the announcement, Billy Thompson, the CEO of SunArc, said, “This is a transformational moment not just for SunArc, but also for business energy independence in Ireland. Our €20 million investment represents a long-term commitment to making solar energy affordable, accessible and hassle free for businesses.

“Ireland has always been a place of innovation and resilience and we are proud to drive sustainability forward while creating quality jobs and supporting our community with an all-in managed solar solution. We believe Ireland’s business community can truly be a leader in the drive for sustainable, solar powered energy and SunArc are committed to partnering with businesses to make that happen.”

In early December of 2025, German renewable energy producer ILOS Energy secured €143m in debt financing to help fund the construction of a new solar farm project in Ballyhea, Cork. The solar farm is being developed in conjunction with the company’s Irish development partner Soleire Renewables.
