There’s been extensive rumors and counter-rumors about Sony having a timed exclusivity deal with Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong for PS5. The multi-million-selling action RPG has yet to be released on Xbox Series X/S (despite its ESRB rating), with the developer noting challenges with the hardware, specifically the 10 GB shared memory on the Series S.
However, even if there isn’t an exclusivity deal, timed or otherwise, Sony has assisted with the title. Speaking to SIE Blog, Phil Rosenberg, SVP of Global Partner Development and Relations, outlined the Content Ventures team and how there’s “nobody better in the world than Christian and Shawne Benson at finding hidden gems and nurturing up-and-coming companies that are probably off the radar for most of us.
“They get tons of support from the third-party account management team, and the partner development team, who are often the very first points of contact.”
Rosenberg also noted that the team worked with “Annapurna Games very early on games like Stray.” However, he added, “The same approach also led our support of Genshin Impact, Black Myth: Wukong and Stellar Blade for example.”
Genshin Impact famously remained exclusive to PS5 for years, and the impact was significant enough to allegedly warrant Microsoft wanting its own clone. Stellar Blade is still exclusive to the console, though a PC release is due this Summer. Is it too much to assume something similar with Wukong, even if it was initially announced for all current-gen platforms?
Time will tell, so stay tuned for updates. Black Myth: Wukong has reportedly crossed 25 million sales and an expansion is in the works.
